Hi gang, first post on this site and I was wondering if you could help me. I remember seeing a rake of BR Blue/Grey Mk II TSO and a BSO at Neasden Depot in 1982, being used for a railtour by #12 "Sarah Siddons".
Does anyone know what the numbers were as i'd like to recreate this on my home layout.
Thanks,
Julian Sprott

There's some footage of it here but i can't make out the car numbers I'm afraid. A photo here from which you might be able to glean details of the headboard www.trainweb.org/ukrailways/lu/photos/photo_9.html The 1982 run was presumably to celebrate her "getting her bus pass". Strange to think she's now 50% older.

No - those four coaches were a former Bournemouth line 4-TC trailer set, actually built in the 1950s but converted to operate with standard SR EP sets (and Classes 33/1 and 73) in two batches in 1967 and 1974. The main changes were the construction of the driving cabs.
I've found footage of another rake of Mark 2s on the underground - obviously a different one!

Are you refering to the mkIId coaches in blue grey? The ones that look like a shorter mkIII?

"London Underground in Colour" by John Glover has a picture of the ensemble at Moor Park. It might be clear enough to see the numbers, but I don't have it at uni with me...

I don't have any numbers but there is a video of a tour in 1982 and there is more info of two tours which happened in 1982: www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/80s/820919lu.htmwww.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/80s/820905lu.htm

What about the list of mark 2 coaches further down? It can't be them, as they are listed as mark 2b and 2c. The ones in the video are mark 2d/e/f - identifiable as such by the absence of any opening parts to the windows, as they were fitted with airconditioning.

That thought just came to me. The later batches d-f did have aircon and those listed were early types. The mystery goes on.....

Wow, thank you for that. I just knew it was a Eastern Region (NC) set but I never realised that only half the set was used.
I assume the set was taken to West Ruislip depot, split and then run down the stock exchange headshunt between the depot and the Met/Piccadilly line; Then onto Neasden.
I knew that this was the place to find information like this. Thank you everyone.

Yes, into Ruislip depot, split and then via Ruislip siding onto the Met. Saturday evening. Returned to Ruislip depot after the Sunday tours.

There's an account on here somewhere from BigAl who was SM at South Ken at the time of one of the gauging runs, surprised at being woken one night by the sight of an Inter City train going through South Ken...
