Not sure if this is allowed here - my excuse is it runs on top the structure above Central Line White City Sidings, indeed, approximately runs tranversely slightly to west of the WCS buffer line. Some pics taken earlier this evening of temporary miniature railway along the waterfall wall on the southern terrace at Westfield London i.e. the one in Shepherds Bush not Stratford : www.flickr.com/photos/58218988@N07/sets/72157632126073786/Track about 300 m long, one loco, two cars. I don't remember there being one there the last two xmas, and I walk along there 2-3 times each week between tube stations, to/from stations, and while getting lunch. If the moderators think its too off topic or in wrong section I have no objections to deletion or relocating. -- Nick

I am shocked, they are trying to compete with the Acton Miniature Railway for the title of miniature railway closest to Central London :-)
No 38TS, Metro-Vicks or Beyer-Peacock steam locos though, so I don't think we've got too much to worry about. Plus our signalling is way cooler!

Daren't let my children see that picture, they will hound me to take them! (Though I might go for a sneaky peek next time I'm in the area)

Daren't let my children see that picture, they will hound me to take them! (Though I might go for a sneaky peek next time I'm in the area) The danger there - for parental unit's wallets - is not just the kids seeing the railway, but all the attraction of expensive thing to buy inside the shopping centre. Which is of course why the railway is there, to attract. -- Nick

There's a Pirates Cove at the Harlequin in Watford and it doesn't need tracks to run. It mows down shoppers as the kids have a good time.

What about the one at Kew pumping station? Although I guess that's not miniature, just small.

Based on a number of arranged visits to the Depot, the base of the Acton railway is actually a permanent installation, activated when required.
There used to be a miniature railway at the London Toy & Model Museum before it closed.

True, but I think the Brockwell Park Miniature Railway is the closest to Central London now. www.travelbpmr.com/Looking at the map I think I'll have to concede that, I thought it was further south. As for the permanence of the AMR, I have aches, pains and scars as testament to that. :-) Anyone who has been to Acton lately might also notice the increasing pile of new track panels being stacked up, ready to make it even more permanent! ;-) Regards Daniel

They have one of those at the National Railway Museum too: IMAG0626 by rincewindthefailedwizard, on Flickr It does shuttles between the museum and the Minster. I was lucky enough in summer to get a "cab ride", the driver knows exactly how much space he needs at each junction to get across without the tail end sticking out and blocking said junction. Apparently they have two locomotives too, an LPG one for use on most days and a diseasel for maintainance days.

It must be pretty exhilarating riding on the outside of an Inter-City 125! That'd be 125 yards/minute I presume! (~4mph)
