On the BVE C stock there are only three service braking positions - what ones in real life would these represent? I know on a real one there are six, including the two Westinghouse notches (I have not included emergency). Would it fair to assume these represent Min, Nor and Max EP? On the BVE it is very easy to stop the train where you want - is this so on a real one?
Also will there be a C/72 stock coming on BVE which incorporates the Westinghouse as well? It would be interesting.

"Real" C stocks are known to be a bit 'hit n miss' when it comes to brakes - especially the Westinghouse. If you asked me to describe C stock brakes in one word - it'd be: inconsistent.

From memory C stock has 'Rheo 1 & Hold', 'Min', 'Nor', 'Max' for service brake positions. One real problem I have with driving BVE trains (as opposed to the real thing) is the lack of a 'gentle' braking position which is available on many LUL stocks.
When driving C stock (and trying to rush if on last trip and running late!) I'd approach and enter a station in 'max'. Then I'd ease back to 'normal' if poss to keep something in case I'd misjudged it. But when approaching the stopping mark you need 'Rheo 1 & Hold' for a final smooth and professional stop.
Hey Colin... Driving a BVE C stock is a leisure activity for people like my son and his mates. It doesn't need all the unreliablity of the real thing!! :-)

I take Pete's point on the gentle braking - there isn't any on BVE C stock. However, the 1938 and 1995 Northern stock on BVE have an excellent gentle brake - in fact the 95 is my favourite sim so far. I've only just discovered you can zoom in and out through the cab window.

The new 72 BVE 4 will not include the Westinghouse brake.

Alex - I suppose B1 is gentle braking? It's not that gentle on a BVE C stock. Try B1 on the C stock, then B1 on the 95. It's quite different.

True. With the 95 though, it can afford to have a gentle brake because of the fact that its got 5 braking positions.

92, 95 and 96 stock don't have any braking positions - in real life it's notchless. Sam The 92/95/96 actually has around 256 positions in the CTBC, although it seems notchless, each one gives a different level of braking/motoring.
