Hi everyone, Sorry that my first post here has to be one where I ask you all for some help, but I've been reading the forum for around six months (if that makes it any better). Anyway, to the point, I have recently bought a new PC and when I try to play BVE 4 I find that the whole screen flickers every few seconds. It still runs fine, but the flickering is very annoying and I was wondering if anyone here would know of a way to stop it, or knows of anyone else having a similar problem. I've tried running it in every combination of screen resolutions and colour depth and in both fullscreen and windowed mode without being able to eliminate the problem. An Internet search has also failed to offer a solution (although I'm terrible at that kind of thing anyway ). If it helps I'm using a Pentium 4 HT 3.4Ghz with 2GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon X600 with 256MB of memory. I'm thinking it may be something to do with the settings on the graphics card but since I know little about them I don't want to mess around on my own too much for fear of causing big problems. Thanks in advance for any help and sorry again for this being my first post, Al

Thans Tom, I tried that but without any success. I'm thinking it's something to do with the graphics card since the last PC I had (also Windows XP but with a GeForce MX440 card) ran it perfectly, if it a little slowly at times. I have no idea what most of the settings do so I wouldn't even know where to start correcting them.
Thanks also Colin, I just felt a bit rude coming in without any introduction or anything and asking for help. I will be posting more though in the future.

I had an NVidia GeForce 4 MX440 64MB before my current ATI Raedon 9200 128MB and both cards run it fine for me. I will get back you you in this thread if I think of anything else.

Hi
Does the problem occur when you run BVE in windowed mode (as opposed to fullscreen?). Try changing the colour depth in the options box (this should be displayed every time you start - if not, load BVE, close the "Open route" box, right click choose "Display Mode Config" and tick "Show this dialog when BVE starts", now every time you open BVE you will be asked whether to run it fullscreen or windowed and colour depth settings).

I've tried both windowed and full screen modes at all resolutions and colour depths but still have the problem. I did notice that when in windowed mode the desktop is also affected by the flickering, if that would help shed any light on the matter.
I really appreciate the help given so far, thanks.

Hmm. Have you tried a driver update?

Hmm. Have you tried a driver update? That would be my thought too. Available as a free download from their website. Although we could run BVE (different card), TRS 2006 and MSTS refused to load/run properly. Download fixed all that. (PC is only 15 months old)

Remember though that by the time the component gets to you (whether direct or via the OEM) the drivers will probarbly be out of date, so a PC you bought 15 months ago may well have 18 month old graphics card drivers. Though most people don't notice the difference until something goes wrong.

I'm downloading the latest drivers now, so I'll let you know how it turns out. I just hope I'm downloading the right thing.

;D ;D ;D Thanks guys, I downloaded the latest drivers from ATi and now BVE is problem free. I don't know why I didn't think of that before . You were right about the drivers being out of date, the originals were released in June last year, and I only got the computer last week!

With me it's never a good idea to assume I've already done the common sense thing to do.
