The A stock is coming along nicely but the cold weather is making spraying opportunity difficult. Do not spray when very cold or you will find a frosted coat appears on the model.
I've started to convert an old GarFar suburban coach into a 1931 driving trailer. This was the batch which has steel panels. The following threat show the progress.....

As promised attached are a pair of in progress shots. The model is very rough and ready at the moment but it is taking shape. A separate chasis is being made as the GarFar one is rubbish and the step board is too low.

I am interested to see that you have opted for new end rather than hacking the existing ones. The GF bodies are very brittle as I have found to my cost so I think that is a good move. The option is to use the Dapol LMS suburban coach kits - I am using those for a couple of GEC LMS power cars which were converted to Motor Luggage Vans for the DC Merseryside network.
The new style Hornby motor bogie can be picked up for @ £20 and provide a cheap and effective form of propulsion.
Please continue to post photos of the progress of this project.

This is the existing end with all the details filed/hacked off and new windows cut. Not an easy job!

Progress update: The front has been glued to the body now. I have also begun to build the bogies. These are the standard Radley Models 7' Fox bogies but amended to suit the 7' MU bogies. The Fox bogies failed over time hence the dreadnoughts received ex-District K2s and the T stock had a new trailer bogie made MT('29) and MU('31). Pictures to follow of this bogie soon.
Now its time to get filling.....

Are you going to build the front up with Plasticard as the T Stock cabs and not quite flat?

No I'm not on this one as it is a steel panelled 1931 car so it was all flush and very plain. There will be the marker lights, jumpers and desination brackets etc. This car is going to be 6727 which was very special, can anyone guess why....

This car is going to be 6727 which was very special, can anyone guess why.... Brian Hardy's book has the answer. It involved a certain experiment between 1947 and 1953. But as I had to look it up, I'll let others have a guess............ PS, are you planning to model the other cars in the experiment?

Not quite. The driving motor coaches had tapered front with air intakes fitted over the cab windows. The driving trailers were dead flat without the air intakes over the cab windows. From about 1942, the driving trailers ceased to be uncoupled so were always in coupled to another car (not always in the middle).

I'm guessing that these were the bogies they were built with. Will the kit have the K2 option for thier later service?

Yes these were the bogies the T stock was built with but they retained these until withdrawal. The Dreadnought coaches and T stock trailer conversions were the only ones that received K2 bogies.
No this won't be a kit! ;D

I don't think any of the 1929-31 trailers ever received K2 bogies. I've been rumbled too considering my 1930 7 comp and DT both have driving motor bogies which are wrong and too long! I'm going to remove these bogies and use them for my 2 unpowered 1931 steel panel motor cars once they receive their triplex springs! Some you win....

I spent some time on the chasis today which is scratch built. Its virtually finished now. I still need to finish the body which is some way off. www.flickr.com/photos/25182511@N08/
