Evening all, I know we should be focusing on the Metropolitan line today, but I have had one thing that is bugging my mind;
Why don't the D78 stock operate the Wimbleware line now, because the platforms north of HSK have been lengthened to accommodate the S7 stock, and they are longer than the D78, so why don't they just use the D stock for the Wimbleware from now until they are sent up to the siding in the sky?

The platforms north of High Street Kensington haven't been extended, the S7s will be using SDO between HSK and Paddington (Praed St)

and beacuse there aren't enough D78s to cover that route as well as the main line.

I thought the D stock had selective door control, as the last doors on the last car used to remain closed at Gloucester Road on the westbound platform when the last carriage used to be berthed half in half out of the platform?

Unfortunately there would need to be more that just the last set of doors to get the D stock in.

So much to learn, but at least you ask the right questions. Wimbleware = District Dave speak for the Wimbledon to Edg ware Road service of the District Line. It is often thought of in these parts as a separate line , I guess similar to the way in which the Hammersmith Branch used to be.

The LT staff term for the Wimbledon - Edgware Road trains was "locals". A local train for local people. ;D

Oddly enough, a few days ago I was at Wimbledon Station and wanted to get to HSK and I asked the passenger assistant when the next Wimbleware train will be arriving and departing, and behold... He actually knew what I meant

I remember one instance where ED12(rt2) failed at Hight St Ken and they decided to take it up to Edgware Road but if I remember rightly it cant reverse in the middle platforms and had to go beyond Edgware Road to do the shunt back.
