I have a 4 car train of EFE 1938 stock which I am trying to get to run successfully round me layout. It has had Metromodels bogie upgrades fitted(so really free running) but it seems to be derailing on my Hornby and Peco setrack points. The wheel flanges look quite shallow and the bogies seem to be rubbing against the inside of the chassis but this is just an idea of what may be going wrong. If anyone else has and suggestions on how to sort this out it would be greatly appreciated.

You may find that the points are too sharp for the stock. Setrack points are very tight on their curves. Not very realistic. The other problem may be that the check rails are not tight enough and they prevent the wheels passing the frog properly. I've had this problem before and added extra inserts onto my check rails. Test it out to see when/where the bogie derails...

Is it all cars or just the powered ones. If it is the latter then adding some weight might help?
I also put a small amount of silicon grease the around the pivot of the bogies as they can stick a little sometimes and it does not take much for these coaches to derail.

Generally, I keep away from sharp track radius for tube stock. The track radius, I keep at >/= 4ft and use the Peco code 75 long turnouts. This gets away from the problem of the recessed bogies binding against the inner side of the body shell, as well as being more proto-typical. On the subject of EFE improvements I have started to printout replacement bogies for the 38TS. These will just snap into the holes on the underside of the carriage (similar to the EFE bogies). These will take top-hat bearings and Romford wheels, a similar cosmetic bogie is also done which will fit an Endo bogie, but this can be adapted for Tenshodo. My feeling is that the underfloor equipment and interior on the EFEs can be done better and the interior for the DM can be made to have a raised floor to accept the motor bogie (the floor chassis still has to be cut, however). This is something I'm working on.

"Are you going to sell printed out EFE replacement bogies?"
That is the plan. I have the prototypes test printed and they look very good. I need to do one more printout to make sure the bogie pillar snaps into the hole on the EFE chassis. This seems to me to be the cleanest solution. I have the underframe equipment already done which just glues in place of the original low relief EFE piece. I want to do the interior next.

Thanks for the responses. From the sound of things I will have trouble trying to get it to work on set track points then. I have a "The Model Shop" standard stock train which runs fine over my points so maybe I would be better off selling the EFE train and trying to get another "The Model Shop" train.
