Haven't you got WINzip as well?
I installed evaluation version (30 day trial) a year ago and it still asks me every time if I want to use the evaluation version. Click on Yes and it works every time.
I had WINrar but abandoned it completely. Winzip does the same thing but better.

When i downloaded BVE 4 i never remember having to use WINRAR. I hate it. Utterly hate it. It never works and is full of error messages. (WINRAR, that is - not BVE!)

BVE comes as zipped (compressed) files. You download them as zips, then need an unzipper such as Winzip to decompress them (this can be done at the same time as putting them in your chosen directory).

You can often open the archive and then just doubleclick on the installation program, which will then do it all for you. I prefer WinRAR to WinZIP anyday, apart from the compression being much better in its native format you can keep using it for ages after the trial period finishes just by pressing ESC whenever you open the program. Also prefer the UI to that of WZ.

You need to start the BVE program (should be under "mackoy" in the start menu). It will then prompt you to open a route, where you can then select the one you want. It takes a while to render the route, so be patient.
BVE routes are created as excel files (or more correctly comma separated values), and so are associated with excel by default. If you open them in excel, you will see how a route is created. It's all based on placing an object at a certain distance from the zero point of the route.

i know .... but how do u open them in the first place? because all i do is just go through a few folders 'Northern Line, V3.1' then 'Routes' and then i've got 'BVE2 / BVE4' - in BVE4' - all u've got is the files (in excel) - how do u open them? now - the train??

Yes, they look like excel files. But just open them anyway in BVE and they will work. Assuming the train is installed correctly, it will be selected automaticly depending on the route you pick.

OK - well i'll check it out .....
Bloody hell, lol - i'm excited about a train sim! How sad is that ?? ;D
*wonders if he is now becoming a nuisance*
is the loading up screen (for the route, presumably) meant to be black? and also *deep breath* do u just open the route and then the train opens up automatically?
And, FINALLY, theres a huge load time with just a black screen (After i've loaded the route i think) about 5mins - is ths ok? or should i do something?
