Now then - since the chap on Acton Town platforms couldn't answer this one, who here can explain why suddenly there are a host of C stocks out to Ealing Broadway this evening? (In fact the chap at Acton possibly had no idea what C stock meant from his reaction!)
Thanks in anticipation!

Something to do with a track defect which was causing trains to strike the platform at East Putney. D Stock were able to pass at 5 mph but C stock, being slightly wider, were deemed out-of-gauge and thus diverted to Ealing Broadway (pix to follow).

That explains why there was next to nothing to Ealing Broadway on the usual route. I wish we had been advised at Tower Hill!

Thank you for that swift explanation. I imagine there must have been a bit of a bump at the moment it was realised there was a problem in the area.

That is what I did in the end. As it is unusual for EB trains to run from Edgware abroad, it never occurred to me that I would be better off changing at Earls Court.

Why is it that you can never find video footage of platform strikes?

That's life, a D is always bigger than a C XF I'm not sure that works in this case. Has the situation continued today, or been rectified overnight?

5MPH temporary restriction for D Stock lifted this morning, C Stock able to run OK.
C Stock are slightly wider at the critical point of the platform/train interface.

All C stock trains from Edgware Road went to Ealing Broadway and the D stock scheduled to go to Ealing Broadway went to Wimbledon.
(Announcements were a bit thin on the ground so some drivers may have displayed the original destination for a bit until they cottoned on!)
After 2000hrs the pattern was revised, so all C stock trains went from Edgware Road to Richmond and D stock trains scheduled to go to Richmond went to Wimbledon. (I presume it was simpler to change the whole pattern rather than try to pick out the Ealing Common stablers and keep them heading to Ealing Broadway)

Do C stock have Richmond on the blinds? (I think I'm sure they have Ealing Broadway!)
...Does the signalling at Edgware Road let them describe the train as an Ealing B/Richmond service? If not how far do they have to go before they can describe it properly?

They definitely have a blind for Ealing Broadway - I was at Hammersmith and one came through, saying Ealing Broadway. Not sure about Richmond though?

Yes; they have Richmond; Ealing Broadway; Olympia. - tinyurl.com/9aqukqcIn days when the lightbox was still at High Street Kensington pfm1, the describer did show "Earl's Court, West Kensington, Barons Court" for such occasional workings, now however i don't think it's possible.
