Right guys, here's the problem
BVE2, Piccadilly v5, Earls court to KX 1938 TS
Leave EC ok, fine as far as South Ken. Will not leave south ken at all Move it to Knightsbridge, then works to Picc Circus At PC, two different door closing noises, but do not get pilot light for 20 secs after doors close Every station after that it takes longer and longer to get the light (worst was 80sec at Russell Square)
Is it me or the program? Everything else on BVE2 works ok.
Can I do anyting to fix it
BTW while I'm on- what is the fix for 'metro' signals on the northern (v3 and v3.1)? Main signals fine, but repeaters and fogs come up as metro-style 3 white lights.

Not sure about your specific Piccadilly line questions, however that routes author, Tom Beevers, is a member here so you should get sorted out!! Regardnig the signals thing, have you run the LU signals batch file? www.trainsimcentral.co.uk/northern.htmIf you see towards the bottom (under the downloads bit) it tells you how this should work. It worked OK for me!

Hmm. There were issues with stations in the original v5 release, the new v5.2 fixes all of these, you can get it at brj.rr.nu but it isn't compatible with BVE2 at present - if I have half a minute at some point (unlikely) I am hoping to do a semblance of a conversion. As to your other issue with signals on the Northern line, it sounds like the Japanese signalling system is still installed. Take a look at the readme - there's a procedure which must be followed to put LU-style signals in on BVE2, if you follow that it should be fine. HTH

Right Tom- you're the expert, I'm the novice. What is compatible between BVE2 and BVE4 and what isn't?
We downloaded BVE4 last october but I gather that is already out of date. Do I uninstall then install new, or do I overwrite (if possible)?
Once that's done does everything (routes, trains etc.) need to be duplicated or does BVE cross-read?
Picc v5 for BVE2- I presume you are saying there is no fix.
Northern signals: I followed the instructions but it still seems to be half-and-half with all main signals showing correctly but the fogs and repeaters still in Japanese: how is that possible?
any advice would help: I used to be able to programme BBC basic ;D ;D ;D but now feel completely left out.

Phil the easiest thing to do is get BVE4!

BVE coding is easier than BASIC by far!
Now as to what is compatible. Generally you get "BVE4 compatible" advertised routes - like the Northern, ELL, Picc etc. These are designed for BVE4 and include extra features (like rain, tripcocks, authentic sgnals etc) and *don't* work under BVE2 (however, just to be more confusing some come with BVE2 files as well). Now most routes designed for BVE2 will run under BVE4 - but they will have blurry train panels and might look a little odd here and there - but they will run. However, routes designed for BVE1 that were supported in BVE2 (.rw routes) will *not* work under BVE4 (there are ways of converting them but I'll not go into that here).
I'd advise you scrub the old BVE4 installation and slap the new one on. BVE4 can access all your BVE2 files - just navigate in the "Open" box to C:/Program Files/BVE/ rather than C:/Program Files/mackoy/BVE4 and you can access all your old routes. I tend to put BVE4-specific routes in the mackoy/bve4 folder and all others into /bve although this of course depends on your personal preferences.
As yet there is no fix for the Picc in BVE2, and I remain flummoxed about the Northern issue.

OK- downloaded BVE4 and Northern: BRILLIANT!Two things though: 1. Why does reverser keep going to N when slowing down (i.e. what am I doing wrong?) 2. For some reason normal brakes are on Q key not A? Is this normal for BVE4? People keep mentioning operating the doors: what is this option about? Ta EDIT -I've just tried Edg-Wimb on BVE4 and guess what: the main signals are fine but the subsidiaries are Japanese. AAARRRRGGGHHHH

The reverser should stay where it is and the key assignments can be changed. As for the doors you can operate them by pressing F6 when in developer mode.
To change key assignments load a route, right click and click options then go to the controller tab, then click the key assignments button.
To enable developer mode get the options menu up and click the user tab then click developer.

Yes Tom (and Tom!) I had all the keys but my default was still set as having A for coast not apply brakes. I have now solved(?) the problem of the reverser cutting out at stations by assigning it a key (0 on numberpad). This has stopped it tripping but I don't know why...... And I still now have the signal problem on the District (but NOT on the Northern as I had before on BVE2) Perhaps my computer's female

Q and Z are the keys to use, pressing A will move the controller toward the centre from whatever side (power/brake) you're on, but it won't go past the center onto the other side, if you get my meaning.

Gottit! Now, which Picc version works on BVE4? As someone who went daily from Oakwood to KX for many years, the last version (BVE2) was somewhat adrift in distances, particularly Oakwood-Southgate-Arnos Grove (sorry if one of you programmed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
What's the best version now?

Just tried it -still some glitches (on my computer anyway):
1.Tells me I have passed a station halfway between BC and EC.
2. Hear doors close at GR but if I try to move, tells me not to move with doors open.
3. same as 2 at S.Ken.
Is it me or is my computer really female?

1. Now you technically have passed a station here: there's a "dummy" station in there to allow for the signal to change to green as you approach it, but you don't actually need to stop, hence why BVE kicks up.
2/3. Hmm - thought I'd sorted this one. I'll look into it...

Hmm - thought I'd sorted this one. I'll look into it... Yes there are dummies almoast on every line. You can see then by right clicking and then Jump to station and then you will find some blank fields between stations Here is a list: Circle line: Sigal EE203 (last before Gloucester Road) District Line: Signal ED1740 (first after HSK) Signal WG150 (second after PGR) ELL: last before Nex Cross Gate station Northern:Kennsington-High Barnet: NQ28 (last before Finchley Central) NU3 (last before High Barnet) Piccadilly: first in tunnel; last before Arnos Grove After passing these locations you will get a message that you passed a station without stopping

I had pretty much the same problem on the northern line v3.1, and putting the CTBC into a braking position seemed to help, as I was putting it into parallel too soon.
Hope this helps,
Sam
