Haven't passed through in the past few days, but this sounds pretty bad... are they finally to replace the lightboxes? D:
Is it on the footbridge or subway?

nono its not on the platforms, when u enter the ticket gates, you turn right to go to platforms 1 and 2, the screen is directly infront of you before the staircase going down

I've taken a look at the screen in question, but by the looks of it, it seems to be a generic "information screen" which have been installed across London (and beyond?) to provide information such as Alerts and Tube status updates for the Olympics I think. Very similar in appearance to the screens referenced in this article www.greateranglia.co.uk/about-us/news/2012/07/new-information-screens-unite-train-and-tube although the screens are not exclusive to any one operator. I've seen these screens across London and they don't appear to be particularly useful because there are so many different messages on them you have to wait too long to see what you want to see. A little disappointing.

There's one at Rickmansworth too. I noticed, while on a train yesterday, that it was showing notices about engineering works between Edinburgh and Berwick!
They're the same as the ones which have been in use at many large NR stations for a while now.

They've been fitted to nearly every NR station I see these days!

None of the above They are large LCD? TV screens - probably 32/40 inches in size. They are not used (AFAIK) for upcoming departures from a station. They only display generic information - during the olympics they were used to show medal winners. Cheers, TSM

Photo of screen. Today it was alternating black screen, blue screen, black screen, message below. Haven't been at Harrow when there has been disruption to see if anything useful displayed. Clicky for piccy[/img] <<Rincew1nd - edit: Image changed to link, as per forum rule >>Actual departure info (Met or Chiltern) at Harrow is poor compared with Baker St, Finchley Rd, Wembley Pk. Departure boards date from 1960's. Indeed the "Main Line" sign in photo probably dates from when there was a BR service north of Aylesbury. Showing my age?

I think the lightboxes are clearer, as they don't need to scroll to show information, and because its physically formatted in a different way for each destination and stopping pattern its extremely quick to tell where the next train is heading. If, somehow, the clarity and legibility of the lightboxes could be combined with the ability to show the next 2 or three departures along with estimated time of departure then they'll have a winner. As it is, the DMI's are cumbersom and require you to stare and wait for your info, but the lightboxes allow you to glance. Annd... they were recently-ish refurbished
