I wasn't clear where to put this post so please could the mods move it as they see fit. Thanks. My Dad, wife and me had a really pleasant day out on the Epping Ongar Railway today. We caught the train to Epping from Woodford and then boarded an old RT class heritage bus that took us to North Weald Station. These are the tickets you're issued with - £13 for the run of the system including the buses all day. North Weald Station has changed since I last went through it on a train c.1979. To start with they've reinstated the second track as well as renovating just about everything. They've done a brilliant job. We caught a combined steam/diesel to Ongar and a combined Deltic/Thumper to Coopersale. Although I wasn't entirely sure how this thing fitted into the whole experience! ;D I'd highly recommend the trip to all on here and also for anyone in the east London area looking for something to do, they're always on the look-out for volunteers to help keep things running. Cheers Rich

We caught a .......combined Deltic/Thumper to Coopersale. I don't think there is a Deltic on the EOR - if you mean D6729, that is a Class 37 (English Electric Type 3), which although built by the same company, has little in common with the "Deltics" except the bogies. A class 37 has one twin-bank 12-cylinder 4-stroke slow-revving engine delivering 1,750 bhp A class 55 has two three-bank (delta form*) 18-cylinder 2-stroke high-speed engines each delivering 1,650 bhp Easiest recognition points are that the Deltic has two windcreens and other EE types (Classes 23, 37, 40) have three - and of course that Deltic sound! * hence the name Although I wasn't entirely sure how this thing fitted into the whole experience! ;D Is that still around? It was an advertising vehicle for the One Day Travelcard when it was first introduced in 1991 www.srpublicity.co.uk/media/play17.htm(edited for misremembered details)

Great pictures. Glad you had a good day.
Always a pleasure to see RT3871 doing the rounds - I always remember that bus when it used to run specials on the last days of Routemaster operation.

Very interested to see the LT fog repeater signal on platform 2. Is it operational? I presume in LT days there would have just been a signal repeater on the platform. ~Great photos - must visit

I am a volunteer there, glad to see people enjoying the railway, unfortunately I was not there over the weekend as I was away camping! However I was there on Thursday adjusting the brakes on the Blue Grey coaches.
To answer your question motorman, I believe it serves as a platform repeater for the guard of the train or whoever else may need to see it.

If I had a bit more time and lived a bit closer then I'd think about it. Mind you, Ongar is only a 35 min drive from where I live, so never say never!

I am not aware of any fog repeaters ever being on a platform, however saying that there were always those L.T. oddities. IMO, the satellite dish needs chucking. ;D I look forward to when the DEMU thumper is in service. Keep up the good work bronzeonion.

You'll have to ask the homeowner whether he wants to watch Sky or not if you want to get rid of the dish! Still alot of work to be done on the thumper, going into NSE ;D Thanks routemater.

If a new halt is ever built at Coopersale what 'theme' will it take? All the other appropriate era's of the line are reflected already apart from LT...

EOR have done a good job in restoring the station.i agree the satellite dish could go,it might have been better to fit that at the far side near that cctv camera around the corner, it looks like a large amount of excess cable has been left hanging for some reason and looks unsightly. interestingly i was under the impression that the epping-ongar branch was the only section to feature a public footpath crossing over the track, however there's one at amersham still on London undergrounds property. www.metroland.org.uk/mantleswoodcrossing/index.htm
