All,
I thoroughly recommend anybody with an interest in A-Stocks picking up a copy of this bi-weekly Rail Magazine-a good article with some informative facts and pictures from recent times.
Enjoy.

I'm intrigued a little by the picture of the A Stock at New Cross. What is going on with the driver's window? It seems smaller than all the others.

Was it an unrefurbed unit? If so, I can offer an explanation, as you know the OPO console is black on the windows of an A Stock, in some cases these got painted red in prefurb colours. See here: www.flickr.com/photos/66162475@N06/7045043051/Edit: Broken link repaired DH

Sadly it probably got the worst of the liveries! The OPO panel was coloured differently as discussed. Had so many great journeys on 5056 on the ELL.

The OPO panel colour was probably an aesthetic matter because the refurbishment team probably wanted to keep the illusion of the windows being of the same depth instead of exposing the OPO panel. The black colour that was previously quoted is most likely corporate dark grey, as used in the 73TS, 92TS, 95TS, 96TS, 09TS and S' Stock

Yes, i'm sure that is the corporate grey. It does look better than black would have.

Hi folks! Just picked up my copy, and the article is self-contradictory. For example it says 5232 was made out of a combination of 5028 and 5117, but when stating 5000s fate, it states the 5232 was the last one built.

I think he meant 5231 which was the last one built. For a time before 5000's demise, they did run together - 5000+5231 - the oldest and the newest together. Slip of the typing finger maybe.

Well yes, but it states that 5232 was the last one built and accompanied 5000 for scrap (which we all know), but he did say that it was ironic for first and to go together (which wasn't the case). Perhaps a lapse in concentration caused it

The Author of the article, who is not (yet!) a Member here, has kindly been in touch and explained it was indeed a typo for 5232.
