This probably has a very simple answer or has probably been discussed before, but the other day whilst walking past the two curves that form the Watford junction, I wondered what the building inside the curve is actually for? Is it just a substation or something else?
Many thanks,
Chris

If you walk through Croxley Hall Wood, via the marked public footpaths, it is possible to get a close-up view of the substation as well as of the railway triangle (including the north curve). So many trees have been cut back, or down, that the triangle of railway lines is now quite visible from public footpaths.

Indeed - when the North Curve was being used to form a Watford - Amersham/Chesham service I remember a few pictures taken from those footpaths which looked quite good!

I took some photos from the public footpaths in that area the last time that the North Curve was in use for a weekend shuttle service. I was surprised at how much foliage had been cut back, or down.
