We know that London Transport did not wish to operate any freight services so these were passed to the LNER in 1937.
I have some old box wagons and the odd iron ore wagon. I'd like to use them on my layout but what colours would they be in? I've seen photos of long mixed trains pulled by K class locos but what colours and markings would they be in?
My time period is late 30s to early 60s. Can anyone advise?

The LNER painted thier wagons in a light brown colour but they soon weathered to look like every other wagon. In the mixed trains there would have been mostly wagons from other areas.Private owner wagons would also have been present.

That's what I was thinking. There are photos with S C on the low wagons. Maybe so weathered PO box vans can be used.
Managed to dig out a few old Lima vans and drill deeper into the bearings so they fit hornby/bachmann wheels.

The SC wagons are Stephenson Clarke coal wagons. SC was one of the largest coal factors with thousands of wagons. They originally owned collieries, but sold them in the late 1920, to concentrate on the coal factor business.
They were also a shipping business, but that has just gone into liquidation

I picked up a copy of a book on Metropolitan Freight stock a while ago. I suspect it may only go up to 1937, but I'll have a delve.
