This tip may be useful for eastbound travellers on the Central Line getting on at White City, Shepherd's Bush, Holland Park, Notting Hill Gate etc.
Travelling to work every morning from Shepherd's Bush I noticed that some trains were almost empty. A little investigation revealed that they were ones which started from White City.
To identify such trains from the TFL website search for eastbound journeys from East Acton and White City separately and the difference are the White City originating trains.
Of course it doesn't always work as trains get delayed or don't leave White City on schedule. However I have managed to start catching empty trains on a semi-regular basis.

They should all be numbered in the 100s, almost all of them will be going to Newbury Park until after the evening peak and some TOps hate doing them.

Only in the off peak are they numbered 101-106 (White City - Newbury Park). Why do some T/OP's hate doing them - is it due to the large amount of tunnel work?

Another way to check which trains start at White City is to look at the working timetables. They're available under freedom of information at www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/working_timetables_7 . And it's not only trains from White City; the North Acton starting Eastbound trains also tend to be much less crowded.

I saw a guy with a small van in the car park and on the back was a sarcastic sticker about people who queue because they don't read bus lane times. I told him that his sticker would only make others wise up and take away his advantage. Sometimes the best part of being clever is not letting others know what you know.

I appreciate your wise words of advice there, but I doubt in this case that matff's tube tip is going to spill the beans and the traveling public of West London are going to be be alerted to those trains and swamp them en masse. The guy with the sticker on his van I think is pushing a lost cause. I am sure there are plenty of drivers who don't read the small print operating times on the bus lane signs, but there is a real resistance in using the bus lanes during the permitted hours, drivers seem to select the safe option and do not go in the lanes to avoid the perceived risk of a big fine.

This guy should get a life London Underground could quite easily publish the timetables online, saving the cost of processing everyone's FoI request when a new one is released... At least they've now admitted that they can be digitised - previously, all requesters were posted a very large box of paper, with them refusing to email them

This guy should get a life I looked at this link and noticed that the FOI request was directed to and answered by TfL not LUL. Even if it had been sent to LUL the office wallahs up at 55 who would have dealt with this have little to do with running trains.

A little tip if you want to continue using such empty trains....... Don't publicise them on the internet . Don't worry - the readership of this site only makes up a tiny percentage of the commuting public who swamp any intelligent strategy with their random behaviour. It's by no means a foolproof system in any case. This morning the 8.18 did not appear so I had to get the next train. This was then held to close a gap in the service due to a 'defective train at White City'. This train became very full and later it even changed its destination to Loughton, effectively becoming the missing train, which never got out of the starting blocks at WC.

What is the point of hiding the existence of empty trains from the public? The Underground isn't your personal taxi service. It would make everyone's lives a little less unpleasant if the crowds were more evenly distributed across the network.
