Coming into Edgware station on Saturday there was a 1996 stock which was moving with it's doors open in the depot area. Is this a common practice? - I note the thread on the same subject about S stock

Yes this is common. Usually to get some fresh air moving around the car saloons.
However, 1996 stock runs on the Jubilee, 1995 stock is used on the Northern -they look damn similar though!
