In BBC Broadcasting House's new Machine Room 2 is a secret door, where it goes to NOBODY KNOWS. But it's got this sign on it: Now quick someone spread a rumour about the BBC getting their own station ;D

Never heard of the term protocol used on LU before. And wasn't aware of the Bakerloo Line having a signalling centre at Oxford Circus. The plot thickens. Have a read of underground-history.co.uk/bbcbh.php regarding the BBC & Bakerloo Line. Plus I think this has been discussed before.

The basement is obviously where they keep the hideously deformed child of Gerry Rafferty and Anni-Frid Lyngstad in a kind of bizarre homage to The Ghoul. I suppose H&S legislation must mean that they warn people of the danger, but they do so in a slightly more believable, yet coded way. ;-)

That sounds fascinating. The mind boggles.
Is there anywhere else like this that has strange access. Eisenhower Centre maybe?

Nah, with those parents the child will be singing mournful ballads about the Stockholm Metro. Instead of Baker Street it'd be something like Gamla stan.

I can't believe any of you are taking this seriously. It's a joke notice referencing a long-since debunked rumour about Broadcasting House having a "secret" platform.

Option 7 at least you have started people talking about this I suppose at Buckingham Palace there must be a similar sign for the Vic line.

There would be atleast a dozen metal signs screwed to that door. NO ENTRY UNLESS AUTHORISED DANGER - MOVING TRAINS DANGER - HIGH VOLTAGE CAUTION - MIND YOUR HEAD CAUTION - MIND THE STEP REPORT TO SIGNALLING CENTRE HIGH VISIBILITY JACKETS MUST BE WORN NO SMOKING FIRE DOOR KEEP SHUT KEEP LOCKED THIS DOOR IS ALARMED PRIVATE

I emailed a friend who has researched these things thoroughly for his book 'London's Secret Tubes', and he says it is just a hoax sign. There is no such connection to the Bakerloo line and there never has been.

And it's not just the Underground that has them. There was/is a maze of tunnels around most of the hospitals/universities in London. I walk past them almost every day - long, dark tunnels that hide behind grates that haven't been opened since WW2 by the look. I know there was one that went from UCH's cruciform building to another hospital building on Tottenham Court Road which went through the cellar of the Jeremy Bentham pub on University Street, separated off by a simple metal grille. It was bricked up in the 70s after a student raiding party snaffled a large quantity of booze. I suspect some of the ones around Guy's hospital connect with the old passenger tunnels for London Bridge.

I also read a book recently which mentioned a cable link between Broadcasting House and the BBCs premises at Lisson Grove. The idea being that if Broc House was put out of action, the BBC would relocate to temporary studios at Lisson Grove. Another emergency studio was in Woodside Park and another adjacent to the District line near Ealing Broadway.
The book laid claim to the fact that Lisson Grove and Broc House were linked by cables through the Bakerloo Line.

Railtechnician is absolutely right....there's a lot down there, and older than one might think. For instance,Bazalgette's scheme incorporated pre-existing sewers, some of which were medieval,or possibly even Roman in origin.London is not the only place this is true....apparently York has an extensive network of Roman sewers. www.engineering-timelines.com/scripts/engineeringItem.asp?id=1137
