Were the Marble Arch sidings ever larger than they are now?
How many trains can currently go in the sidings, with the cooperation of the signalling system? Is it different to the number that will physically fit?

According to the document "Lengths of sidings and reversing berths", Marble arch Siding is 150.5m That effectively equates to one 8 car 92ts train and nothing more....

In the days of yore I am fairly sure that it also had a loco spur at the east end too, leading off from the main siding beyond the points.

Has a train ever accepted a wrong-route into the siding (possibly in or around the 1980s)?

They were provided when the CLR had locos - i.e. from opening in 1900. Loco trains were replaced by EMU stock in 1903. How long the loco spurs (there was more than one) remained in use I have no idea, but with the re-signalling around 1939-40, they weren't there for use then.

Looking at a signal plan for 1923, the loco spurs weren't signalled then - so before that date.

Just read that "the CLR resignalling was complete by June 1914" so I would guess the loco spurs went then - after some years of disuse ??

How does a loco spur "go"? Was the tunnel infilled? It's still shown on the Carto Metro map

No - spur just de-signalled.
