I notice that the middle rail is missing now and has been for some time. Would it be a case of just removing this middle piece? What about the electric cables that power it. I guess that's all removed as well?

I think you will find that a fair amount of cabling was stolen soon after the line closed. As the third & forth rail were not required by ORPs I suppose they removed the remainder.

EOR* does not require the electrification in the short term, but having a Central line train return to Ongar for a special may be something that EOR could pursue.
*No, not Enhanced Oil Recovery.

"Unfortunately due to the costs, safety issues and legislation, there are no plans to re-electrify the branch." eorailway.co.uk/departments/rolling-stock/emus/So unless LUL are happy to have their 92's hauled up by a steam train, which would certainly be interesting, I doubt we will see the central returning to ongar.

How long do the batteries last on a battery loco? Just an idea!

While we're on ideas, I have a much less sensible one...
How quickly does a 92TS decelerate while coasting? ;D

Is Epping to Ongar uphill, like Theydon to Epping?

Are there any old Craven or 49 stock drivers that could be converted to diesel?
