Are fast Amersham trains still timetabled to arrive at Harrow simultaneously with slow Uxbridges? They arrive a minute after the Uxbridge train (08 18 28 38 48 58) at 19 29 49 59 although often they do arrive at the same time-or one waits for the other. There used to be a few Uxbridge/Aldgate semi fast trains until the timetables were simplified in 2003. Very rarely there is still the odd Uxbridge S/F but only at times of delay! In days gone by there were fast trains that non-stopped Harrow-on-the-Hill.

Even in the current timetable they are not quite extinct. On weekdays there is still one semi-fast Uxbridge to Aldgate service and one semi-fast Baker Street to Uxbridge service.

Ah! There is also a Watford-Baker Street semi fast train at about 2230-where does this train come from and why does it run (in between two Watford-Baker locals)?

Ah! There is also a Watford-Baker Street semi fast train at about 2230-where does this train come from and why does it run (in between two Watford-Baker locals)? The key to this one is to understand that prior to this train, trains arriving at Watford are allowed 18 minutes to reverse and after this train they only having 8 minutes. This change of ten minutes means the total round trip time has been reduced by 10 minutes (on a ten minute interval service) and therefore the number of trains required to maintain the Baker Street-Watford service is reduced by one for the late evening service. Your semi fast train is that spare train. It runs south, at Harrow slotting into a path vacated by the Amersham Baker Street service which at that time of day is being reduced from four to two trains an hour. Presumably even though the service from Amersham has been reduced it is still considered worthwhile maintaining the 'four fast trains an hour south of Harrow' service a bit later into the evening. From Baker St the train runs to Uxbridge (all stations) and stables in Uxbridge Sidings.

Thanks, I thought there would be a logical explanation such as that!
