Can anyone tell me if the work on Uxbridge station roof, as seen in this picture is complete and the station is scaffolding-free?

Yes. Still there, David. I did have a word with the SAs up there when I was passing through doing the shopping. They don't have a clue as to when it's ever going to be finished and the scaffolding removed, though I see that Metronet have decided that changing and adding more of those 'Transforming your Tube' whatnot to the blue boarding on the platforms a far more pressing matter than dealing with the actual roof work! Apparently the whole thing was supposed to be finished by Autumn 2006.

They're having severe problems with the structural integrety, are they not?

There were problems with concrete spalling from the roof soffit first spotted back in 2003 that closed the station. Patches of defective concrete were broken out and the steel reinforcement exposed. This is a durability issue and I wouldn't think the roof is at imminent risk.
I don't know but there could be further problems affecting the roof.

Heres a question:
Did the illuminated sign under the clock at Uxbridge ever have the capability to display Barking? The Uxbridge-Barking service was still running at the time the station opened afterall...

No I believe it displayed 'TRAIN TO HARROW and CENTRAL LONDON' or something like that!

From memory it shows the next train out and the next Met or Picc.

From memory it shows the next train out and the next Met or Picc. does it show the variety of destinations for both lines--like Aldgate, Baker Street, Cockfosters, Arnos Grove, etc?

Its only 'Metropolitan Line' or 'Piccadilly Line' (with a brief description of where they go in general).

See this photo I took in January 2007. I was at the station again a week or two back and there was little apparent progress on the works. (click for a larger version)

Ah good man!! I hope this old sign is kept after the refurb! I don't know what Metronet's plans are for terminus information like this. Probably a series of bog standard Dot Matrix indicators...

(click for a larger version) Don't they need to blank out the portion about off-peak Piccadilly passengers needing to change at Rayners Lane, now that there is daily service to Uxbridge on the Piccy?

The service is every 20 mins off peak and 15 mins in the peak. But with cancellations and late running it is often longer than that!

Well its scruffy, certainly. The thing about changing for the Picc is repeated 3 times in different ways there. And the oyster promotional stuff has been done to death over the entire system.
Anyone know what the box second bottom-left says?

Neither of the poster boards are actually needed there, certainly.
If you are talking about the box to the left of "change at Rayners Lane for Piccadilly Line" then I guess it will say "change at Rayners Lane for Metropolitan Line".

I think it says Change at Harrow for trains to Central London/Baker Street? I think the Picc sign needs to be there, but the damn oyster thing doesn't!

If you look closely, the Oyster one is not promotional - it's a warning about the change in procedure so that maximum fare is charged for incomplete journeys. Whilst it would not necessarily be needed now, back in Jan 2007, when the picture was taken, the policy was only two months old and the poster therefore may still have been needed.

It can be a PITA keeping up to date that board during peaks from Rayners. Anyhoo as i've indicated the board is controlled by us signallers at Rayners, the box indicating the advice for changing at Rayners for piccs is permanently selected and there is another button beside it which is never used, i cannot recall what is says but iirc it refers to something to do with the met from and old service pattern, if i remember it, next time at Rayners after my leave finishes i'll look it up

Are fast Amersham trains still timetabled to arrive at Harrow simultaneously with slow Uxbridges?

Didnt realise there was such a thing as a Semi Fast Uxbridge. What stations did they used to stop at and when was this service stopped?

In the 60's there was a fast Rayners Lane - Finchley Road service.
As for the clutter - given station staff have gone to the effort to get a "change at Rayners Lane" poster produced - although there are already two notices telling them to do so, I guess staff get a lot of highly intelligent users who will wait for their Picc Train rather than taking the advice.

In the 60's there was a fast Rayners Lane - Finchley Road service. By 1975, I read where this became non-stop only between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Finchley Rd. I also read where peak-flow semifasts on the Uxbridge branch have not worked since 2003.
