Hi all I was doing some train spotting on the Met at my regular location between Chalfont and Amersham on Friday afternoon. At around 2ish S Stock 21073/74 went up to Amersham and then returned not in service. Usually I would think that the DMIs were wrong and assume it was in service. However the fact that it was not in a timetabled slot and the fact that an A Stock was already up there and returned in service with another S Stock going up after the As return, I know it was definatly not in service. I did think at first that it might have been on its inital test run but looking at my notebook, it came into service back in March. So I was just wondering what it was doing up that end of the line between timetabled services not in service? Thanks in advance for your help and sorry to ramble on lol! kabsonline

It was a train defect which required the train being withdrawn from service and being run to depot

It was a train defect which required the train being withdrawn from service and being run to depot Out of curiosity where did it come from to require it to go to Amersham to turn round?

Could the fault not have been identified at Amersham, prior to the return trip?

Its easier to repair the fault at the Depot Haha I know that, but doesn't the OP that the train was heading away from Amersham out of service in a non timetabled slot. That could suggest that the fault was found at Amersham, and in order for it to be rectified, it was sent OOS to Neasden. Not sure if that's correct though.

In fact if the fault developed at any time after the train left Rickmansworth it would have gone to Amersham to reverse.

It must have developed the fault between Rickmansworth and Chalfont because it went up to Amersham out of service and not in a timetabled slot
