Whilst travelling on a 'down' c2c train earlier today, I noticed that at the east end of the 'down' c2c platform at Upminster for a short stretch, and also east of the station for about a train's-length-plus, what seems to be something that looks like tunnel telephone wires on the usual white insulating supports.
I was wondering what purpose these fulfil - perhaps thay are 'abandoned' or disused (which they appear to be). Logic seems to suggest that it could have been something to do with TT handset testing years ago? But they seem to be too far away from the District Line to be that.
Can any of our east-end (Upminster) District colleagues help with this one?

IIRC they were something to do with the platform indicator boards on the C2C platform. They connected to the original signal box.

IIRC they were something to do with the platform indicator boards on the C2C platform. They connected to the original signal box. They were nothing to do with the former BR signal box The dummy Tunnel Wires were not used to test the London Transport drivers tunnel telephone handsets, the test board for this was in the Yardmasters/ Train Crew booking office which was and sill is next to the London Underground signal box.

Those wires extend quite a way down towards the wash on 53rd, maybe they were used in case of an emergency ie - pinch & rub? also platform 2 & 3 were before the 60's the same length, if this has anything to do with it.
