Hi all I thought London underground was going to keep a C stock for London Transport museum is still going ahead dose anybody knows which on it is and can anybody confirm it we thought it might been C69 5555 as it will only be on the display at the museum. See DStock7080's comments above. This seems to be all the information. One 6 car C stock train is being made available to them, no one seems to know exactly what use is to be made of it with any certainty. However the belief within LU circles is they will keep one DM car and salvage parts from the remainder of the train for the Q stock project. (Naturally we'd rather they kept 4 cars - minimum that could form a serviceable train, and use the rest to get the Q going - but I fear that is wishful thinking!) It will not be 5555, which aside from its unique number would have been an ironic choice for the "survivor" given it has been confined to the middle for over 10 years as it has control defects, that couldn't be pinned down, whenever it runs on the outer end of a train. It's somewhat surprising its hung on this long! 5552 has equally been in the middle for a long time, it still has an upper case destination blind in it! 5555 is at Neasden to go for scrap. The LTM train will be one of the two stabled at Acton works, one of which goes for scrap and the other to LTM. 5726+5552+5720 and 5529+5524+5545 are the trains at Acton works.

It would be nice if the LTM train includes both C69 and C77 examples, but as both remaining C77 units are with 5552, which apparently has "issues", it seems unlikely this will happen without a reformation.

There seems to have been some reformations. Looking at pictures posted on line of today's scrap run, 5726 + 5552 is now coupled with 5545. Does this suggest the Museum want 5720 or 5529? It leaves 5529+5524+5720 as the train nominated for Museum use.

Interesting news on reformation, 5524 being part of the first passenger run 28 09 1970 (with 5522 and 5523) maybe a reason to keep?

I'm sure that is part of the plan. Look at 5034 for example.

Unexpectedly, W5720+W5524+5529E left Acton Works at 1115 for Ealing Broadway then an empty trip around the Circle Line (via Victoria and Aldgate) and back into Acton Works. This resulted in the train being turned to ease later moves, thus returned into Acton Works as: W5529+5524E+5720E.
(5726+5552+5545 were dispatched from Acton Works to Northwood on Thur 12 June)

Would that really matter though if it is going to the cutters torch?

It looks an absolute mess. I assume it's 5529 as per latest its the only DM facing West now. Visibility through wire and bushes inhibits detailed observation. Has there been some filming going on? Or a private party for L U staff families? Two separated cars just behind. Also certainly one possibly two 59 tube stocks with graffiti ends. Definitely a bizarre twist to the last knockings of the C.

It may well be the case that this freshly applied livery isn't strictly official (if you get my gist). Or it may well be the case that it will become a float at the carnival. Would be interested to know!

29/06/2014: 5578-6578 + 5531-6531 + 6721-5721 770
...and that is the end of the whole thing, whichever angle you see it.

Not a vehicle that ever inspired anything other than irritation and annoyance in me. However, thanks to my more recently acquired empathy with those who care for such things (a result of reading District Dave), I'd like to extend my genuine condolences to all who have a soft spot for C Stock. Hopefully, they'll preserve one car for the devotees to view, at Acton or wherever it may be. RIP

And so ends 111 years of the Westinghouse brake on the sub surface line from the 1903 A stock to the C69/77 stock. Sad times......

There are four cars at the museum depot at the moment, and it looks like its being used for parts.

I'm pretty sure I heard on the tour that of the four cars at the museum depot, one is being stripped and will be donated to a London school. The others are for parts for the Q stock - traction equipment, etc. They'll be scrapped once the required parts have been removed. The museum will be receiving a single DM for their collection; I believe that will be taken from the tour train.
