I don't see why the line was named Jubilee Line at all as it opened in 1979 which was not a Jubilee year. It was simply a gimmick by London Conservatives to garner support for the party in the 1977 GLC elections. As for the Jubilee itself, the country is in recession and I admire HM The Queen for asking her government in February 2012 to limit the spending of public money on public Jubilee celebrations and festivities. The painting of underground trains to celebrate the event appears totally unnecessary and rather tacky. The train has not been repainted, its a vinyl plastic covering. |

OK, replace the word "painting" in my post with the word "decorating". It is still totally unnecessary, tacky and a waste of scarce resources. |

According to TFL it was done by Tube Lines and didn't cost the taxpayer anything (so I presume that company has secretly re-entered the private sector - last time I looked it was part of TFL).

Like the livery or like it not, you don't refuse requests from "the Palace", otherwise it could be knighthood suicide for someone or several someones !!! ;D ;D  |

There is one slight snagg with trying to design a fitting livery. Silver and Gold are straightforward, but what colour is Diamond... Clearly, the Jubilee line needs to be running transparent trains to properly celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. |

this is the train that was stuck in the tunnel last night. its been stuck at neasden depot all day. it was dragged into the yard this afternoon...

Oh dear indeed. As far as I can make out - Train stalled approaching St. John's Wood just before 17.30 and suspended London Bridge - Finchley Road. Suspended Canary Wharf - Finchley Road 19.10 to 20.50 when suspended London Bridge - Finchley Road again. Dud train departs 23.15 being 'pushed' by train in rear, arriving in Neasden depot around 00.45 (which must have screwed what remained of the service between Finchley Road and Stanmore!). In today's Evening Standard (like it or like it not) - LUs Operations Director Nigel Holness said "... this is clearly not the level of service our customers have a right to expect ...." That must be the under statement of the year .... "TfL Chief Peter Hendy .... admitted there was bound to be more disruption during the Olympics." There's confidence for you  |

Use the Central line instead I have more faith in it than the Jubilee line!

Returning to the subject of this thread (the thread about the St John's Wood breakdown is " Jubilee line reliability worries"), I saw one of these trains headed south towards Finchley Road (while I was on a northbound Met) early this evening. My overall impression was "what a mess" - indeed it's worse than the AOA 378 (and that's not at all good)! |
