This scheme seems rather surprising: people from Great Missenden to Aylesbury stations will have to change at Amersham, Chalfont or Rickmansworth (or Watford) to reach central London. This does not look as an improvement! sdx.............Best off listening to God. He's more informed than Wikipedia.

i wonder is that the proposed chiltern service?. Hello, This scheme seems rather surprising: people from Great Missenden to Aylesbury stations will have to change at Amersham, Chalfont or Rickmansworth (or Watford) to reach central London. This does not look as an improvement! Fairly old proposal I also have an older one for the Colne Valley Transit which was a Light Rail option - St Albans to Amersham The present reality is direct Watford Junction to Baker Street service only. Once this link is in and working then consideration may be given to other services, however capacity constraints at Watford Junction could well be a limiting factor. XF

Well Watford manages fine with a 2 platform 10 minute frequency service, so 2 platforms could be for Metropolitan, and 2 for the Overground... I believe the only problem there is with the various ECS moves that reverse in Watford Junction in the morning and evening that could need some careful timetabling!

Actually, the "key" to the diagram shows "existing NR line" from Amersham to Central London. This does not mean that the Marylebone service will be limited to Amersham. But the diagram is not so clear as it mixes lines and services. BTW, this diagram seems not to come from Wikiblahblah, but from the "Watford Health campus" site... www.watfordhealthcampus.org/the-project/masterplan/transport-improvements

Here's a question, if they wanted to maintain the Chesham Shuttle but was unable to because 8 car S Stock trains can't fit into the bay platform at Chalfont...why didn't they extend the shuttle via the Watford North Curve to Watford rather than making it part of the normal Met Service?

Surely it must be a combination of greater cost of track maintenance because of increased usage on that stretch which currently sees very little and that a direct service to Baker Street/Aldgate is of greater use to Chesham residents than a service to Watford. That's just my guess though.

Its definitely a better decision to run Chesham trains to Baker Street/ Amersham but I know that LU wanted to keep the Shuttle Service if possible (and I know many on this forum preferred the shuttle ;D).

This happened again last weekend, with an unusual service operating from Northwood - Amersham/Chesham via Watford with a reversal. Interesting for the driver to announce, and confusing for the public to understand the concept of. Also saw the use of the Northwood Blinds, as seen on 5161 here at Watford - www.flickr.com/photos/willfaichneyphotography/7385102612/in/photostream

Think the scheme is intended for further into the future when East West Rail is in place. Hertfordshire CC described it as an 'aspiration' in a recent Modern Railway article.
I would imagine there might be some interest from Chiltern in a Milton Keynes - Aylesbury - Watford Junction service as this would link up three major employment/shopping/residential centres.

There was already a London to Birmingham service but that didn't stop Chiltern.
If you are going to cover that route separate Aylesbury to Watford and Amersham or Ricky to MK services would be rather wasteful.

Hm? There's already a MK to Watford service. But there isn't a MK to Aylesbury, nor a Watford - Aylesbury. So linking the two together might make sense.

What services are running this weekend? The journey planner advises all travel from Northwood to Amersham/Chesham via Watford Junction and Rickmansworth! There is also emergence engineering works taking place which have closed the line to Watford. What services should be offered?

It's suggesting some journeys from central London using Chiltern from Paddington(!), West Ruislip, and replacement bus to Amersham. I assume the problems at Croxley are preventing trains running between Northwood and Chorleywood as well as on the Watford branch

I got to Watford Met at about 11am to go A Stock hunting only to find no trains! All that was on offer was a bus/taxi shuttle to Rickmansworth, nothing to Northwood. This is ongoing tomorrow too.

The Watford service was only withdrawn until 1530 the remainder of the service ran with 5 trains T405 had to stable in Pfm 1 at Watford, which meant that until it came back into service both the Northwood and AM/CM services had to use Pfm 2, so the AM/CM's left WF a few mins early and waited time at Ricky. Then there was a big gap between 1630 & 1715 of 45 minutes (60 mins to AM & CM) until the 2 trains had been put back into service, the other one (T406) was in Ricky 21N sdg.
