I experienced the new seats, they look very nice and was rather surprised how hard they were, a group of passengers sitting nearby commented on the hard seats and they seemed to thing they were temporary for the Olympics

I bet people were pessimistic about the future of train seats when they travelled on the green proto-type units on the Jubilee line, back in 1988/9. Believe me, they were probably the most uncomfortable seats I've experienced on the Underground! The 1973 stock is also having new seats Has this actually been confirmed?

Why the Piccadilly? Its seats are fine, unless only the moquette is being replaced

Hi all
New member here, although I have viewed the site many times as a guest previously, but I wanted to reply to this particular post.
I don't think anyone has mentioned the priority seat logo on this new design has been incorporated within the moquette. Having taken a picture I thought I'd read the tutorial on how to upload my image. Bizarrely and by a strange coincidence the tutorial used as an example a picture of a similar priority seat on another type of moquette! The Jubilee is far more discreet than this example (with no wording) and the image can hardly be said to stand out. (Not that your average passenger takes the slightest heed of these seats anyway I'm afraid, he says cynically!)
I can't comment on the "springyness" or otherwise of the new seats.
I will try to join Photobucket and upload an image in due course, but if anyone wants to beat me to it feel free. (I can't remember the unit, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't one of those seen by Bronzeonion; 96021 possibly.)
Sorry if this is old hat to anyone.

Just want to echo rmnw1. Tried the Jub a few days ago en route from Kings Cross. Boy was I in for a nasty shock when, after an hours or so of standing or walking, I finally got to sit down. And in fact watching other people get on and sit down, most people were suprised. A couple of lads opposite commented to each other that they had changed the 'covers', and more than likely had forgotten to put the padding back in. So there you go. TfL has forgotten how to make seats, and is busy getting rid of any evidence that it ever did know how, or that seats were ever any more comfortable than a brick with a rug over it. I can understand trying to be efficient; do the best possible for as little possible, its just enraging that the first part of that has somehow been etched out. Not happy.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread is that the Jubilee line isn't the only one to have received the new moquette. The W&C has too: www.flickr.com/photos/24772733@N05/7068313553/Personally, I think the new moquette suits the Jubilee line more. I thought the W&Cs previous moquette was 10 times nicer and so it surprises me that they've prioritised the W&C.

They've only just replaced the moquette on the W&C when they refurbished it! What a waste of money!

So are the new seats on the 96TS of the new moquette no longer have any kind of padding whatsoever? Is LU now becoming like every other metro in the world and no longer having comfortable seats?

I travelled on a refurbished train yesterday and got a bit of a shock when I sat down, expecting the usual bounce! That said I like the new seats, I think they are more comfortable as they are more supportive and you don't end up sinking into them.

I suppose really on the tube you can rarely sit down anyway every time I use it about 9 times out of 10 I have to stand up. In my opinion I think the 1967 stock had the comfy seats!

Go to the outer reaches of the Met, or the Central Line, or most lines, and you will find a seat very easily.

Hi,
So am I right in thinking since these trains have been in service they have gone from the light greyish to the current and now the new sets?
3 sets in 13 or so years? ;D meanwhile the Central Line is only just getting a refresh after 20 years?

I agree with the Jubilee getting them. The Jubilee is the most modern looking line by far and should be kept like that. It is an asset to London Although I do agree other lines such as the Central should also get a little bit more attention. The W&C, no way its only just been refurbished!

I can see why LU want their own standard moquette for corporate identity purposes but the problem is now that the blue Barman moquette is being forced onto lines whose internal colour scheme just doesn't match. It looks awful on the W&C and not much better on the Central. If I'd have been LU I would have kept the design consistent across the fleet but simply changed the colour tones of the moquette between each stock - uniformity with individuality. Granted there are cost issues there but I can't see it costing that much more. I did try to illustrate this with a bit of Photoshop magic on the Barman design but my skills obviously aren't silky enough. I agree with the Jubilee getting them. The Jubilee is the most modern looking line by far and should be kept like that.
