What (if any) are the rules for DLR on-train staff regarding using their mobiles?
I ask because the PSA on the train I got back from Tower Gateway to Gallions Reach spent virtually the entire journey on his mobile rearranging a social engagement for this evening.
He was not operating the train from the front at all (we were both in the centre car), otherwise I definitely would be making a complaint.

Im pretty sure they shouldnt be doing that. They should be keeping there eyes on the train the whole time. I know the train does everything automatically, but there could be something going on with a passenger, or even a PEA. Thats extremley dangerous and careless, im sure somebody on the train will be making a complaint. However are you sure that he or she was the train captin of that train and not just travelling home??

Regardless of any safety issues etc - using a mobile phone for personal calls in front of customers is not something I would consider acceptable in any customer facing role.

What about a driver or train operator standing on the platform talking on the phone prior to taking over their train?

I disagree. A train driver's job is to drive trains - answering queries from the public is secondary. Ugh - that's the sort of "not my job guvn'r" attitude that I utterly loathe in some industries. It wouldn't kill a driver to answer the occasional query if a member of the public sees a uniformed person and approaches them. Likewise, a uniformed person in public view should always behave in a suitable manner - and that means not making personal phone calls on a mobile phone. |

This evening I've returned from a swift pint after work. The new barmaid was difficult to deal with as she insisted on tapping her mobile when she should have been looking out for customers waiving crisp tenners for a drink. When I alluded to this she put on that smacked rear faced so often favoured by the young and implied that I shouldn't be pointing it out as it contravened her human rights. Laughable and useless in equal measure.  The use of a mobile is acceptable when it doesn't interfere with your job. I'd expect any LUL employee to ring off or cease texting if I had a question or it compromised their duties. Aside from that I wouldn't be too concerned. Another reason to not get WiFi on the underground maybe? |
