Hi Does anybody remember last year, when virtully all of the 72 stocks fronts were covered in white paint. It looked terrible and they looked old and horrid. Now all of them look as clean as crystal, they look brand spanking new and i can really say, they look like they can last all the way to 2020. Easily. Does anyone know what went on, did they get deep cleaned??

It's funny you mention that, I was only thinking earlier today how clean and tidy the 72's are looking when I was travelling on the bake. Some of them appear to have vynils on the outside body work too instead of the gloss paint finish. From what I read, work on the traction motors and door workings happened not very long ago. Some door windows also now have black rubber seals which also does look very good.

The motors seem very crisp when I use them. They are receiving vynils and also steel plates on the door pillars on the first car's set of double doors.
It's strange to see the driver close the doors at Harrow and then motor off into the siding!

Door project on them refreshes the doors and the underframe of the 72's are cleaned every so often, not sure how much but enough to rid the trains of excess grease and oil build up.

The insides need a clean now! Even these have improved, or at least the two I travelled on last Friday (3235 and 3354) seemed pretty tidy inside... 3235 has even gained an ex-Vic Line ventilator knob above the first set of seats!! ;D

The 1972's are in great condition they wil last up to 2020 maybe even longer who knows? In this current climate I can't see the upgrades being on time by 2020 They must be 50 years old by 2020?

Well, they are 1972 stock, so won't be 50 until 2022 (although the 1972's on the Bakerloo are MK2's, which actually entered service in 1973). Is your maths REALLY that bad? ;D ;D ;D P.S. There are some Mk1 cars as well, so they will be 50 in 2022!

Parts of the 72 stock will be much older, I'm led to believe some of the shunt control panels are ex 38ts.

The 1938/49 UNDM shunt panels were used on the 1972 stock but I believe were removed before/during refurbishment.
