My Mum is now 80 and when she used to take the train to Hammersmith from Hounslow West to get to school, her father was a Foreman Ganger on the Permanent Way..as many know. Until Grandad resigned in 1942, I assume that he would have had a staff pass, but was there a spouse's priv arrangement then? Would any children have been entitled to any priv tickets? My mother is not sure whether she had a reduced-rate season ticket to school or not. It was a private one so she would not have received an educational season from a local authority. She used to get off a lot at either South Ealing or Northfields during the war and exit via the emergency exit if there was a bombing raid, so this suggests that she had a season of some sort.

There must have been privs as there was a Traffic circular supplement 22/35 issued.

In the 60's I had a child privilege ticket and when I bought a ticket from Wapping to Plaistow the booking clerk had to write out a paper ticket as the fares from Bromley by Bow to Upminster were composite fares and not part of the priv zonal areas because British rail ran those stations.

In the 1970's when I worked at Kings Cross (BR) I was asked about availability of BR staff passes on LT. From memory BR staff were allowed free travel on what was basically all former "joint" BR/LT lines, plus a few odd bits like Bow Road-Bromley-by Bow.
The list was IIRC Kings Cross-Finsbury park; Northern line to High Barnet and Edgware from Euston, but not intermediate between Euston and Edgware! Met main line Baker street-Amersham, Kings Cross-Hammersmith H&C line; DR Bromley by Bow-Upminster, TG-Richmond, PB-Wimbledon; Central Liverpool St-all stations east, North Acton-West Ruislip; Bakerloo Baker St-Wembley Park and Euston-Watford. There's probably other bits I've forgotten!

Used to live at Southall in the 1950s/60s. Used to get a childs priv from Southall to Upton Park (via Ealing Broadway of course) to visit Grandparent. Like revupminster's, the ticket was always written as far as I can remember.

I seem to remember there was an inner zone and an outer zone. The Inner ticket had two vertical green stripes towards the middle and the outer had green stripes at each end. Then the composite fares to upminster and i think to Amersham and maybe Epping as well.

When I did the vast majority of my tube bashing in the period 1988-1992, a lot of it was done with a friend who worked for BR. He used to get a nice 'priv' blue-grey Edmondson ticket for his one day travelcard. I had to make do with a Network South East BR/LU travelcard on a BR APTIS ticket.
