Hi
Just two more question from me tonight.
1) I was thinking. Is it likely in the future that S Stock carriages will be mixed up so maintanace etc. can take place on a certain carriage? Or will the units that are together now stay together throughout there life?
2) The fabic-like bits that bend and hold the train together in the middle. Will they last again throughout the S Stock's life or will they need to be replaced at sometime in the future?
Thanks for your ideas and answers in advance ;D

It is intended that the S stock units will be fixed throughout their life. The fabric may well deteriorate over time and need to be replaced. I expect the designers don't even know how it will react over time.

There doing alright at the moment from what I've seen. Its the 09's where the seat covers are already showing dirt etc., probably because of their light blue colour

The 'fabric bits that hold the train together' are called outer intercar barriers. There are inner intercar barriers which you will see from the interior. Inbetween these two hold some hoses and inter car cables, etc.
Unlike other stocks, this will protect the hoses from the extremes of the weather, thus reducing the likihood of a main line burst or "wet" intercar jumper (which the 1992's suffer from!) causing a variety of serious or minor defects.

The 'fabric bits that hold the train together' are called outer intercar barriers. On S Stock I think they are called gangways . I'd imagine you are probably looking at a 7-10 year life for that kind of material.

I was making the point that there are two types of the fabric used, an interior one and an exterior one.
