For around a month now, there seems to be some kind of fluid on the bottom of the bogies on my EMT Class 153. I don't know what this fluid is, or how it is getting to the bottom of the bogies, as the train is kept very safely in a box which is never shaken or anything. A picture is below. You can sort of see the slightly wet areas. Any help would be appreciated. This is my favourite model and I don't want to have to stop using it. www.flickr.com/photos/28982714@N06/6806697450/

Blast! I've just checked mine and it has fluid aswell..and it's kept, as the cereal boxes tell you to, 'In a dry, warm place'..
I'd suggest it's harmless. Have you tried running it? Can't be bothered to find my powerbox thingy.

It runs perfectly fine. I've sent an email off to Hattons anyway to see if they would know. But if it's on yours as well, it is probably normal.

Only one of my 153s is like that. It just seems to be the lubricant they use, and is normal to find under bogies (but seems more common on Bachmann models than Hornby for some reason). Although, you did say 'bogies', and I don't know how it could get onto the unpowered one.

it could be an excess mineral oil.

The reply from Hattons:
"There are a few things that might be causing the leaking. It could be leaking oil or lubricant. The best recommendation I can offer would be to get in touch with Hornby's Helpline on 01843 233 525. This is the best way to diagnose the issues that you are having with this particular loco."
