there's no guarantee the "replacements" wont be as bad cosmetically after a few years.

Yes certainly! I think people should add their photos of A stock to this thread. A few pre-refurb shots would be great too.

Is there a reason for a fire engine being present in the last picture at Northwood Sidings?

Isn't that a LU breakdown tender for the crews splitting the trains and loading the cars?

Each time ive been to the A stock scrap runs at Northwood there was a LU Fire Engine in attendance, I assumed it was to cut the couplings?

Is there a reason for a fire engine being present in the last picture at Northwood Sidings? It is one of the TfL breakdown tenders. There is some photographs of one showing the equipment that they carry on the LTSV2 website. www.ltsv.com/sv2/pic_view.php?selpic=3857By the way on the same page (Feb 2012) there is a picture of 69ts being shunted at Eastleigh by an ex DB Kof shunter, one of those diminutive shunters with a low cab that is virtually the same height as the tube stock.

Is there a reason for a fire engine being present in the last picture at Northwood Sidings? It's not a Fire Engine, as posters above have intimiated it is a vehicle used by the ERU (Emergency Response Unit). They carry all sorts of gubbins around with them, including equipments to cut 'permanent' couplings between cars.

Why are the non-platform doors on 5165 open?

Why are the non-platform doors on 5165 open? This was when 5128 + 5164 got gapped outside Harrow, after detraining some engineerrs arrived on scene and tried to find the cause of the gapping, so for someone to be able to get to the other side of the train without crossing any rails they just opened the doors on the other side and got down.

while its a shame and i feel gutted that not more appear to be saved....... If I only knew who to talk to, I know a site that would take at least one vehicle. So it not for the want of trying that so few are saved. The more that saved the bigger the pool of major spares wil be for the vehicle that still operate. www.districtdavesforum.co.uk/index.cgi?board=met&action=display&thread=15879&page=66see there's on trailered up there, and interest, that could have been saved and only needs paint that could easily have been done by hand instead of being just scrapped.

Just looking at some photos of 5173 and there aren't any photos of that unit in passenger service. I only have one quite poor photo of 5173 arriving at Rayners lane on its last ever passenger run before the accident. lul-docklandslightrail.piczo.com/?g=28852052&cr=5It is at the bottom of the page, 3rd last image, if anyone wants to look. So I would be very greatful if anyone found any other photos of 5173 in passenger service before the accident. Thanks in advance Allan60

You really don't have long. Off peak it is starting to get difficult to find them! Lovely photos though, thanks for sharing

Didn't think I would, but I'm going to miss the A Stock Me too, will be a sad day when the last one runs. The A's are disappearing at a rate of knots now.
