Passed Ealing Common Depot about 14:30 this afternoon and noticed Sarah Siddons coupled to two battery loco's. Looked like they were waiting to come off the depot towards Acton Town.
Is there a heritage tour coming up?

I believe some sort of gauging run with a steam loco is planned to run shortly and Sarah Siddons will be part of that test train.
All to do with seeing where such steam locos can safely run in connection with the 150th anniversary celebrations next year.

It's more than a gauging run.

I am envious! Cabbed Sarah in August 1979 South Ealing to Acton Town, on invitation by the brake block test guys and it was an experience never to be forgotten. I have driven other locos and a railcar but just being an observer on L12 beat the hands-on experiences that I had.

I was lucky enough to drive Sarah for a few trips from Ealing, while piloting the steam loco WB, during "Steam on the District" in 1993. All went OK until a rather heavy stop at Ealing Common EB, when the steam crew almost joined me in the cab of Sarah!, all recorded on video by the late Mr RJ Greenaway!!

I to can say I have been on Sarah Siddons. As a member of the "Steam on the Met Team" I was asked if I would like a trip on her. I jumped at the chance and rode all the way from Amersham to Neasden Depot. An amazing experience

I used to be the brakeman on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, but after I left things went downhill rapidly.

Please excuse my ignorance, but when Sarah Siddons is hauling a train, what is on the other end?

More often or not 20227 that was at one time painted in Met Line colour and temporarily named Sir John Betjemen.

Got to drive it in Ealing Common depot whilst doing Guard-Shunter stock training and, during "Steam on the District", from Acton Town to West Kensington albeit under the watchful eye of Test Train Driver Alan Peck. Managed a perfect Westinghouse stop at West Ken right up against the E/B station starter (which was 'on'). As alluded to earlier in this thread, there will be "Steam of the District" again very soon, albeit not leading and not in traffic hours.

Choppers. 43+ years old themselves. ......and the rest! The ones recorded as having worked the S stock trains are 20301 (ex D8047), 20302 (D8084), 20304 (D8120), 20305 (D8095), 20901 (D8101), 20905 (D8325), 20142 (D8142) and 20227 (D8327). Of these, all but the last three are from the first build D8000-D8127), between 1957 and 1962. The second batch (D8128-D8199 and D8300-D8327) were built between 1966 and 1968. At a construction rate of 127 in five years, or about one a fortnight, D8047 would have emerged some time in 1959.

Sarah currently residing near Kensington. I was in London on a course over the last three days and was round the corner from Lillie Bridge. I went for a walk yesterday (Thursday) morning about 7.30, took some pics and have just had a look through them. Didn't see it at the time but look what is tucked away in the shed at Lillie Bridge. Lillie Bridge 16 by Shane Wilton, on Flickr I did first go on Wednesday about 5.30 pm to see one of the battery locos shunting from between roads 5 and 6, but my battery went on my camera so went back to the hotel, Had I stayed I think I could have got some 'exclusive' shots cheers Shane

Probably best to wait until after the job has been completed. That way an accurate story can be told rather than speculation Regards, Dan

Someone has dropped a short note on my blog that there will be a steam train at Baker Street tonight (presumably 25th Feb).
I presume part of trials for the anniversary.
Anyone have any more details as the comment doesn't mention times?

It will be after all the last trains have gone to depots. The Steam Loco will be in the formation of an Engineer's train. The loco may not be in steam.

So that will rule out getting access for photos, anybody know where it will be heading a where? Might be a footbridge or something on route.

There aren't any public vantage points along the route.

Guessing the only routing without *any* vantage points through Baker Street, I'm guessing it's not going the way most people would expect it to be going, North
