I've been wondering........
Is there a speed restriction between Canons Park and Queensbury?. Trains seem to crawl until they reach the end of the embankment section south of Canons Park. There appears to be building work at the base of the embankment so is this the cause of the restriction?
On platform 3 at Stanmore why do the trains stop about a carriage length further from the buffers than those on platforms 1 and 2?
Any answers appreciated.

The second Q - is probably just cause that's where they placed the stopping point - it is a newer platform so perhaps it's a little longer than the older ones and can afford the room?

I think they have wound it back due to the state of the track being a bit jerky.

There have been speed restrictions there in recent weeks due to track condition / ride quality. Re Stanmore 3. As a new build platform and track it is subject to more stringent standards around friction arrestors and distance from the end of track. I can't recall the exact details. |

When trains are on the speed restriction do they drive manually or ATO? ATO. They can drive in exactly the same modes whether there is or isn't a speed restriction, so in ATO (normally) or in PM (for example if people are trackside). |

SO basically drivers can choose between ATO and PM modes?
I cant see why the Stanmore end cant be manual at a certain time of day I doubt the frequency is as high on the Northern end of the line compared to the central core.

Yes and no. Yes, the drivers can select PM or ATO and the system will let them, but normally there needs to be a reason for PM driving - the timing of the timetable these days is all to critical to allow just any driver to choose PM driving without due reason.
This will get even more critical when the next timetable comes into play, with even less recovery time available from end to end as the expected journey times and increase in trains makes ATO even more important for the 'regulation' that is constantly altered station to station for each train.

When I happened upon the failed train at Canning Town the other day, the driver explicitly asked the controller for permission to proceed in protected manual. This permission was granted, although the train had other ideas and refused to move.

I see with ATO i Know the whole point is to have them in ATO most of the time to make trains run Faster but I don't see why PM would be different you could drive the train simerlar by putting the TBC into full. when is the new timetable coming?
