From about 1947, 5 car O/P stock trains from the Met's Uxbridge service started to be used on the Circle Service. Several questions:
1) At what rate did the transfers take place? The old saloon stock only started to be scrapped in 1950!
2) Was the Uxbridge line ever short of stock due to (the poor metadyne performance) this - the F stock was still working on the District until 1950-51?
3) I note that two 7 car trains started running from 1947. How were these formed from the remaining stock? Did uncoupling stop so trains were either 6 or 8 cars like the T stock?
4) Did mostly O stock move to the Circle? P-Trailer-O+O-P? If so, how often did stock get switched over between the Uxbridge line and the Circle?
5) The Hammersmith and City service used (mostly) O stock M-T-M+M-T-M. Did this ever get swapped with the 5 car Circle trains so 6 car O stock would work the Circle and 5 car O/P stock worked the H&C.
Of course all this stopped from 1957 when bulk conversion of the Circle Line stock to CO/CP began!

See "District Electric Trains" No 24, by Piers Connor, Underground News 590, February 2011. Re your Q3, the 7-car formations were started in Feb 1948 according to the WTT; due to shortage of serviceable stock. The Met. didn't uncouple in service. They ran 6-car or 8-car trains. The 8-car trains only ran in peak hours. Re your Q4, Mostly P Stock but some were mixed because some of the units were mixed O/P. Most of the O Stock was based at Hammersmith. The Uxbridge stock was based on Neasden. Re your Q5, No, some of the stabling sidings were only long enough for 5-car trains. The stabling had to be modified for 6-car operation.

Thanks TP, must get hold of a copy of Feb 2011!
Re Q3, there was originally 28x8 of P stock I think for the Uxbridge service so if with 18 x P5 to the Circle the Uxbridge branch could have used 12 x P6, 6 x P8 and 2 x P7.

I was trying to keep it simple(!) you are of course correct. There were 19 O stock units split up amoung the P stock cars redundent from the addition of 38 Hammersmith and City Line trailers. These ended up in the middle of the formations to avoid the guard getting trapped in the tunnel in the O stock cabs. When the stock was fixed to mostly 6 and 8 cars there must have been great care taken. Perhaps the following applied?
'A' M(P)-T-M(O)+M(P)-T-M(P) 'D' 'A' M(P)-T-M(O)+M(P)-T-M(P)+M(O)-M(P) 'D'
