OK - This is bugging me now. Phil asked in this thread which station on LU had an escalator going up to the platforms from street level. I thought that Alperton station on the Picc had such a feature?

David take it from a once frequent user - definitely stairs only!

I went through greenford recently and noticed that they still have a wooden escalator. I thought that these had all been replaced.

Alperton did once have an Escalator up to the EB Platform. I think it was one from the South Bank Festival of Britain (1951) site. Greenford's .I think was there from the beginning.
(Another frequent Alperton user ) :-)

As Greenford isn't covered by the section 12 regulations, the wooden escalator has been kept. AFAIK this will be the case until such a time that it has to be replaced because parts aren't available. MBCV spent alot of money recently repairing the thing, so head down to Greenford for a piece of transport history.

Does St. Johns Wood (or was it Swiss Cottage??) still have the uplighters on the escalator? I always thought that it was quite a feature to match the lights with the wooden treads.

St. Johns Wood. It has featured in loads of pics and is known for being a good example of 1930's design (with Arnos, Southgate etc).
