Hello All Reading Wikipedia, it says that each driving motor on the A Stock has 4 tip up seats. Is this correct? I've never seen them before. kabsonline  |

Yes it is correct. They do get used a lot, especially in the peaks.
There used to be a fifth tip up seat. This was for the guard and in the back of a seat, locked when not in use. This was removed some time ago.

yes that is right they are where ever you find a single leaf door so there are 16 of these seats on each 8 carriage train. The guard would have operated the doors from that position back in the day when they existed.

I think it depends. Commuters used to busy trains will know them but I once scared a woman when I used one as she couldn't see me behind the door - it opened and I was there right in front of her! I was pretty confused and wondered what they were there for, I thought they may have been for the guard but surely they wouldn't need 4 seats...

I'm sure Chris W took a pic of me sat on one last year when we took the "last" Chesham shuttle, however I suspect it has disappeared down a fotopic shaped plug-hole as an hour of searching has only led me to AI's shoes. EDIT: I don't think it's just the DMs as we weren't in one coming back; it was definitely a car-end though. |
