Searching through the old thread in the District Dave archive I came across one of the first thread I contributed to entitled "Croxley Green Depot" - now there's a surprise In the thread there was a photo of the depot with 2 set s of 1972 stock on shed!. I took a copy of this photo and enlarged it As far as I am aware 1972 stock never worked in passenger service to Watford or did it? Can anyone through some light on this for me? XF

They certainly did. I arranged the very first one to go north of QP when the then Met/Bloo Divisional Manager said "yes".

What did the blind say? Watford Junction? Not Watford (LMS) like the 38s.

Thanks all - so few photos of 1972's north of Harrow & Wealdstone!
I guess a model of 1972 stock will have to be added to my list of future new stock for my Croxley WRD layout!

I have a video at home somewhere that shows 72ts at Watford Junction. When I find it I'll let you know what it's called. It's also got plenty of footage of Croxley depot although with 38ts.

XF That is in my plans! Basically, I'm working on 1960 stock at the moment which will fit on the 1959ts chasis. If this goes ok, then 67/72 stock will follow.

Now the question springs to mind from the photo, what were the 2 sets at the back of the shed? As all 4 Bakerloo stablers at that time shared the same 2 roads and for a while it was possible to have both 38TS and 72TS on the shed.

Stored in the back of the end road of the shed were 2 Class 504 Manchester Bury units being used as a source of spares for the Class 501's On the other roads there were some withdrawn Class 501 cars that were also being used as a source of spares, I have to admit to having a copy of the Bakerloo to Stanmore & Watford J&K Video and forgot that it shows 1972 stock leaving Watford Junction - I have just watched the video again always enjoyable. XF I was actually refering to roads 1 & 2 which held the four stabled LUL sets, 2 on each. The 504's were on the stops of other roads, 9 to 12 from memory, just as the class 81 - 85 stored locos had been previously.
