While building the Radley Miodels L8/9 kit a question has arisen. The windscreens on the front end of the kit are the same depth each end. According to the pictures I have the windscreens on the 'big' cab with the equipment compartment remained the same until later years but the windscreens on the other end appear to have been modified on both cars and are deeper. The picture in the Ian Allan LT ABC for 1959 shows the original arrangement while I have two later pictures that seem to show the modification. Again, this modification only appears to have been done on the 'little' cab. Can anyone verify this for me as I intend to finish the car as it was towards the end of its career.
Of course, the 'holy grail' would be a picture of one the cars actually out on the road somewhere!
Thanks once again.

They were scrapped about 1960/61. Could it be that there were differences between the two? Another possibility is that one was involved in an accident and the modifications were made to be able to use items that were in stock such as windows.

They actually lasted until 1969. The pictures I have purport to be of both L8 and L9 and the modification is visible on both of them. It may be as well to leave it as it is as, if no-one on here can answer the question, who's going to notice it on a layout? The problem is that the pedant in me wants to get it right!

I remember reading somewhere that they were not popular with crews due to their unusual door arrangement. The cab doors not only folded vertically like a bus door (think RF) but were split horizontally like a stable door, very draughty.

The picture in the 1959 ABC has the driver leaning out of the door as both parts of the top part are open. It's the same picture that is in 'Workhorses of the London Underground'. Maybe when they got rid of them it truly was a case of locking the stable door......
