In 1956 (9/9/56) an "Open Door Detector" was commissioned at Finchley Road southboun, to detect open doors on compartment stock trains heading into the tunnel. This is assumed to have been the result of "an incidient" involving an open door, because it came so late in the life of slam-door stock on the Met.
The end of compartment stock came on 5/10/62 (last day of T Stock) but the date of removal of this detector has so far eluded me.
Any ideas, please, folks?

ADMIN: As with all these things, it's fine where it is for now and will be moved to 'historical' only once it's answered. This is the way we always do it, otherwise your question may be missed .

Yes, I remember reading about this. As Finchley Road is an island platform the doors on the compartment stock would sway open if not closed properly rather than swing shut if the platform was on the drivers side. I don't know when it was decommissioned however, sorry, but perhaps it was removed when the twin starting wires were phased out?
I wonder if other island platforms suffered this problem such as Kings Cross?

Thanks metman. I do have a date for the removal of the 'wires' - T/C states from 7/11/62 and to be completed by 21/2/63 (whether it was or not, I have no idea).
I can't remember seeing anything there about the detector included here, but I will recheck next time I am able (in about 2 weeks).
