Don't think you have much chance after about 7am!

dam! i know its a busy station, best not try there. Thanks for replies It tends to be a magnet for half of Essex to drive to! Being in zone 6, it has much cheaper fares than say Brentwood or Harlow etc.

This makes me really quite angry. By not keeping the Ongar branch open as far as North Weald, and developing that station as a "Parkway" for the massive amount of M11 traffic that now drives in to pollute London, a fabulous opportunity was missed.. Yes, there would be a massive car park there but:
1 North Weald residents would still have a rail service
2 Other car parks further down the line such as Epping would still have spaces at 7.30 a.m.
3 Less pollution and congestion nearer to C. London
4 Less oil imported whilst providing revenue for LU
Yet again, I personally feel that other, more enlightened County Councils would have done this, but Essex C.C. > (chaired between '89 & '92 by the notorious Lord Hanningfield recently imprisoned for fiddling his own personal expenses), was rabidly Thatcherite anti-rail. Now we learn that Epping station car park is often full by 7a.m. Is it too late for this to be re-considered?? (I know this is also RIPAS territory but my posting is specifically to address the Epping station car parking problem that now obviously exists).

From a moderator point of view, I agree entirely, it's touching into RIPaS but it's very relevant
And from a personal point of view, I couldn't agree more.

Yup - double tracking parts of Epping - Ongar and properly electrifying would improve this world, and people are probably gonna use it if the service is improved. Or have it on the second Crossrail.

The real issue re; car parking and unlikely extensions beyond Epping is I fear that there isn't the capacity for additional loadings on the existing service - and until Central is either re-signalled, or as noted, transferred to Crossrail 2 - this is always going to be the issue.

Yes it does get full around 7am (well thats the earliest i've ever been at epping). The local newspaper reported a few months ago that it gets full by 6.30am, and its not surprising. Also, i've waited for a bus on many occasions at the station forecourt in the mornings, and it is complete mayhem. Lots of stupid drivers, who park in the bus stop. A few dodgy bus drivers from an independent company, plus there are articulated lorries accessing the builders yard. The station is far too small for all the passengers and vehicles it handles.

There was a plan put forward to build an elevated level of the car park towards the end furthest from the entrance, but there was strong objection from the local residents whose homes back onto the car park!
But yeah, you'll be lucky to get a space after 6.45am weekdays!
