Just a quick question, having read the section on shed leads. When shed leads are connected are the collector shoes live? Best Wishes to all Hugh

AFAIK the shoes are live. We're told to assume all shoes are live regardless what side the positive rail is, so I suppose the same applies with shed leads. Assume it's all live and you can't go wrong! This was relevant to me recently when I managed to drop my mobile phone down the side of the train at Edgware Road The DSM reminded me to make sure I was nowhere near any shoes when using the grabby handle thing to retrieve it, even though the +ve rail was the opposite side to the platform.

Simple answer:
Yes, they are all connected on the same circuit.
For the same reason when on the juice, it isnt a good idea to stick you fingers in the receptical box either! ;D

No those are covers but they don't lock. 92/95/96 stock do have locking covers with the track/shed switch linked (IIRC) to the round train circuit. Older stocks don't have locking covers - someone please correct me if I'm not entirely correct.

Was this a new innovation on the 92s or were they also lockable on the 83 and 86 prototype stocks?
