What on earth was going on yesterday? On the way to The Emirates.Looked good as for the first time in ages no engineering works on The Met.Whoopeeee. Take an Aldgate train at approx 1.45pm from Preston Road. (I should mention at this point I take an old(94yrs) neighbour with me).Theoretical journey time to Arsenal 45mins max. Get to just south of WP-train comes to a halt. Crackle crackle announcment '' stalled train, points,Neasden depot ...'' Wait for ten mins and we move off.Get to just outside Baker Street.''sorry folks due to computer /signalling/controller error [or some such] we have been put in to a certain platform at Baker St. and cannot go on to Aldgate.'' ''Change on to another platform(3?) where an Aldgate train will come in''.Up and down the stairs with the old boy in tow.Get on Aldgate train .We wait and wait .Next crackly message'' You won't believe this but this train is not going to Aldgate.Advise you get on Bakerloo -change at Piccadilly etc etc.'' How about H&C-no chance-problems at Edgware Road now. And where were the staff on the platforms?.Nowhere to be seen. Had to go up to the concourse where they are all running around in a panic giving conflicting info. Eventually get on to P5 and get some sort of a train to Kings Cross .''the last one '' some guy said. Get to the match at 20 mins late.First time ever in ages I've missed a KOff. Not much better going home-more Met line severe delays posted at Arsenal station.
And what are all those weekend engineering works doing when this happens? The weather was fine and sunny-no summer monsoon excuses. Lord help us when the Olympics are on.

I was also caught in the middle of this. Apparently there was a signal failure at Edgware Road that initially closed the District HSK-EDR and H&C HAM-EDR. Don't know what was going on with the Circle.
Met was also affected severely by this. I was at Baker Street around 4:45/5pm and there were hardly any trains for about 10 mins. I was only there for some trainspotting, and so when I was going back home (H&C/Circle to EDR then District to Southfields), there was a sign saying there is a huge gap in the service and there would be no trains before 5:30.

Well your delay at Neasden was caused by incompetent staff in Neasden Depot (not the actual Neasden Depot staff i hasten to add). There was a possession over the whole north end of the depot and on Klondyke. However, one of the protection staff put a possession limit marker in the wrong place, so when Jubilee 301 departed Neasden platform for the depot, it didn't get very far due to the incorrectly placed marker. The Jubilee then proceeded to bring their train back into Neasden platform. All of this, without a word to the Met and a 15 minute delay to the service because of it. Then, as all these now late running trains get to Baker Street, due to staff accessing the track at ERD due to a points failure at Praed Street, traction current was taken off between Baker street and Notting Hill Gate. This left a queue of trains, headed by 2 H&C's from GPS back to Moorgate on the westbound. As a result, NO Met trains could be sent to the city as the westbound queue would soon have become an eastbound queue. Then, as the north end of Neasden depot was out of commission due to the aforementioned possession, any Aldgate train had to come through to Baker street to reverse, this all added in with the booked reversers. 2 trains did manage to go away at Wembley, but unfortunately we cannot then produce sidings to stable trains in, from thin air!! I will add that at this time, we also had a computer problem that allocated all wrong train numbers from Neasden coming south, and the decision to remove the reversing facility from P3 at Baker Street didn't help matters either!

Well I've been moaning about the removal of that crossover for a while now. Smug!

Thanks for that. Not sure what ''possession'' and ''Klondyke'' are but this incident and ''incompetent staff'' hardly gives me a great confidence in the control of the system.Reassurances needed.

Possession: Short for 'Engineer's Possession of the line'. In other words engineering work is being carried out and no trains can run on that section of line. In this case the lines under possession were entirely within the depot. Various protection arrangements have to be put in place to prevent trains entering such a section of line and these include Protection Marker Boards. Klondyke: This is the name given to some of the roads within Neasden Depot. They are the two/three roads that run parallel to the Met line for the full length of the depot.
