One for solidbond!
While rummaging through Tubeprune's website, I came across his pages describing the brake test panel installed in the offside desk of the C stock cabs, and how this panel is designed to allow a single person to perform a brake test when prepping a C stock. However, it also states that this panel has never been formally introduced to the T/Ops and that nobody outside the depots is supposed to know how to use it. Tubeprune also stated that two people are still used to prep a C stock.
So what's it good for then if the T/Ops don't know how to use it and the depot men don't use it?

Hmmm..........I know how to use it! (ok, I did have to ask trainopd78 for a quick 'refresher' a couple of weeks back ;D ;D).
I was shown how it works during my stock training (by Solidbond), and also by my instructor operators when doing job / road training - on that basis, I'd say it's inaccurate to state that drivers are not trained. On top of that, some form of test to ascertain the trainline air line continuity has to be carried out as part of the train prep (brake test isn't the correct term really, it should be called "train line continuity test").
This can be done by one person, using one of two methods: either the brake test panel, or the train operator can discharge the trainline air to just under 20lb's, shutdown the cab and change ends - the trainline gauge should read the same pressure as the cab the train operator was previously in. This will prove that the trainline is continuous.
**now waits for Solidbond to post the correct information ;D ;D**

IIRC when I received my original C stock training in 2002, we were told it was not yet officially commissioned. At that time, it was part of some driver's rostered duties to be the assisting operator for the old C stock brake test procedure, but in practice the assisting driver stayed in the mess room and the driver used the brake test panel.
This is now official, i.e. no drivers rostered to assist with the brake tests, but I can't remember when it changed.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

Yes, Tubeprune is a little out of date on this one - who can blame him when he has such a great site and so much information to update?! The 'one man brake test panel' has been ratified by the TU and is in operation. It has been in for quite some time now, but like adw I too cannot remember when we went over to not using an 'assist prepare' driver.

So what is the procedure for using it anyway?

So what is the procedure for using it anyway? Open up and charge trainline air. Press the lamp test button and see that all 6 bulbs light. Turn the switch to "Brake Test" from "Normal". The two "Ready" lights should now be lit. Discharge trainline air (TBC in emergency). Wait for the two "Trainline discharged" lights. Recharge trainline. Wait for the two "OK" lights to come on. Turn the switch from "Brake Test" to "Normal".

As far as the District is concerned, i've been going through old copies of my duty books. The last date of 2 man prep was 28th Sep 2002. This was also the date when Parsons Green depot was moved to Earls Court too.
