Jumped off a southbound Met at Wembley Park and briskly walked (almost ran, but not quite! ) into a 96 stock in the northbound platform. The train had (except from about 2 replacements) all the seats in the old moquette - it looked very odd! The train was working number 306 but didn't get the number of the actual train - as I was promptly escorted back off the train, as it was terminating at Wembley Park. I heard some of the 'long term stopped' in Stratford Market were being put back into service for the new timetable coming, is this why this train has missed the re-covering of seats (the old moquette looks better IMO!) - I didn't see if there was anything else different about it compared to all the other 96 stocks.

Definately one of the four 1996 mark 2 batches built in 2005. The old moquette is alot more colourful and blends in with the interior much better than the current blue one.

Thanks for the replies guys the problem with the old moquette was there's no spare fabric left it seems - as a few replacements were done in the rear carriage with the new moquette on the train I saw... didn't look good

The 1996 Mk2 carriages also contain minor differences to the Mk1s including amber text on the internal DMIs instead of red.

^^Also there are black areas on the floor by the doors and the doors themselves are quieter and smoother like on the 95TS.

Ok I'm confused . Am I reading this wrong or are you saying that they're using old moquette on newer trains?

Fellow member Tubelightonline and I were fortunate enough to travel on a 1996 Mk2 car today (it was in amongst Mk1 cars and the car number was 96607). Now, it was obviously a Mk2 car as it had the black flooring and orange DMIs BUT it used the new moquette.
So can the original moquette only be found on train-sets complete with just Mk2 cars?

AIUI all trains have this - that'll be the 7th car upgrade special trailer.

Thanks Charlie. I was always under the impression that several Mk1 trains were split with each car being added to other trains to create the 7th car. The trains that were split were replaced with Mk2 train-sets. Clearly this isn't always the case as I found out today! Mk2 on the left and Mk1 on the right:

Nope - there's the original number of trains + the 4 extra.
The 7th car addition was AIUI new build.

The 7th car was added to a D-end unit, by adding an extra T in between the original T and the UNDM. This means that the new car will be the 3rd car in the direction of Stratford, or the 5th car in the direction of Stanmore. (The platform signs show NB/SB or EB/WB in different parts of the line)
