Blue circles next to D Stock car numbers

Whilst waiting on the WB platform at Westminster for a train to Wimbledon yesterday, a train came in for Ealing Broadway. Looking at the car numbers on the top of the carriage, I noticed that on 2 cars (I think), there were blue circles next to the actual number. These were not present on the remaining carriages.

What do these blue circles represent?
