Whilst out with a friend on the Hammersmith and City lines, we noticed an S stock in the shed at Hammersmith Depot. Is this an S7 stock, or an S8? I'm presuming it is there for testing purposes. Any help on the matter will be much appreciated.

Saw it in the shed on Monday. As Dstock7080 says, it's the first S7 stock, which was shortened from a pre production S8 train.

I don't know if it's still there or not, however there was a picture of it at Hammersmith floating around - Will have a quick look and post it here. EDITHere you are:

The only line S' suit are the H&C and Circle tbh I think it also suits the Metropolitan line. The A Stock I believe is quite unreliable, and also is not very wheelchair accessible. I believe S Stock doesn't suit the District line, especially as the D Stock was refurbished to an excellent standard, making the trains look brand new. If they were still unrefurbished, I would definately go for S Stock. Another thing about the D Stock is that it is currently one of the most reliable stocks, which makes replacing them now a waste of money in my opinion. On the other hand, the A and C stocks are some of the least reliable. I think TfL should look to delay the S7's for the District line until around 2020, like they did for the replacement of the 1973 stock for the Piccadilly line, as both stocks will probably be more unreliable by then, and would make replacements more "worth their money".

Contract's already done and the wheels are in motion for S7s on the District. Doing so would also delay the fitment of the signalling system, it will never happen. The Picc stock cancellation was done before the contracts were signed.

S stock has to go on the district soon, whats the point of having another 10 years of a supposedly standard stock if the met has it in a different length and layout, and the district doesn't have it atall? Thats still 3 stock groups, same as now...
The A60/62s reliability isn't the worst on the system, despite falling since heavy work stopped its still better than some fleets. Meanwhile the 73ts is getting something like 400k MDBF, compared to 60k ish average for other fleets.

Really Ben? It's not often I see the Picc screwed by a failed train, the H&C, Circle and Lakerboo seem to scoop those prizes away from the Met. (Along with the statutory daily signal failure on Lakerboo at Queens Park, and Met/Jubilee somewhere around Neasden)

SE13, indeed. There were a few graphs on the subject published in the last TfL board meeting. It was in a previous thread, maybe about 2 months ago-ish? I'll have a look in a bit for it, very illuminating reading.
