I can't remember where I read it from but I remember somewhere that there were possible future plans to reopen Silvertown station on Crossrail, hence why it is going through Connaught Tunnel, coming to the surface then diving down again.

Yep I believe so but so far there only passive provision for the station, i.e. no funding or timescales.

Not covered in the Crossrail Act 2008 either.

I still think they should've rerouted the Connaught Tunnel under London City Airport with a station there, I'm sure LCA would appreciate this during their current plans for growth.

How far away from LCA is the Connaught Tunnel??? Hello. We live near here and sometimes walk over the dock bridge at this place. The railway tunnel which is being used does actually go under the aeroplane parking area at the west end of the airport. So there's a big new railway being built right across the city, and it actually passes underneath one of the main airports of the city. But there is no station.

Indeed that is true but I don't believe there is a long enough straight section for a station in the Connaught Tunnel, if they were to re-route the tunnel a little to the east so that it passes diagonally under the DLR Station this could work. Also this would mean that it doesn't need to resurface on the North of the river.

There is no way that you could use the tunnel for a station - it would involve ripping up the entire structure, and then you would have a station at the far end of the runway a long distance from the terminal building.
As mentioned above, there is passive provision for a station a bit further to the East of the current Silvertown station, but it is more down to redevelopment of the area and the builders picking up the cost.

Silvertown's station location is very relevant to any future redevelopment of the adjacent Tate & Lyle factory site. Once that plant becomes obsolete, either because the equipment is out of date or the sugar market changes, this becomes a prime site for redevelopment. And who knows what might go there? Close to L City Airport, there can't be Canary Wharf style towers, but some medium rise commercial units,a lot of luxury residential and the minimum social affordable housing the developer can get away with; we've been there before right across Docklands! The site is ideal. As for Connaught Tunnel, the disinterest in maintenance goes back to BR days, and the cheapo extension to the NLL electrification in 1985. It coped with BRs 20-minute interval service, but not more without spending a lot more money. Who would pay? In short no-one! RicP
